OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:

1) To know about the employment opportunities in nift , Hyderabad FOR deptt of MFM.
2) To understand the student perception regarding previous year placement
3) To know the usefulness of master in fashion management(mfm) course

NIFT Hyderabad:-

National Institute of Fashion Technology was set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry
of Textiles, Government of India. It has emerged as the premier Institute of Design,
Management and Technology, developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in
fashion business in the emerging global scenario.

National Institute of Fashion Technology Hyderabad laid its plinth stone in the year 1995. The
initial days began at Chenetha Bhavan, Nampally, Hyderabad with a strong team empowering
the center.

The inevitable success came in the form of a new campus. The Institute rejuvenated itself
with its sprawling five-acre campus at Madhapur inaugurated on 20th May 1999. The campus
is being admired for its architectural grandeur and aesthetic appeal.

Academics:-

The curriculum at NIFT allows students to easily blend into a global network, as well as
acquire a greater appreciation of local industry trends. The multidisciplinary and broad-based
structure aims at an all-round development of students. Deriving from the changing paradigms
of industry and commerce, its content as well as the methodology is constantly reviewed by
academia and industry experts.

NIFT offers four-year bachelor and two-year master programmes in the areas of Design,
Management and Technology

Important Academic Activities

Craft Survey and Documentation: As part of the Craft Cluster initiative of NIFT, students
undertake field visits to closely interact and work with craftsmen to add value to their
products.

Educational Visits: Students frequently visit industrial units to integrate theory with practice.
They also visit museums, art galleries, exhibitions, and trade fairs to keep abreast with latest
fashion trends.

Industry Internship: Students intern for six to eight weeks to understand the structural and
functional constituents of the industry. During the internship, students learn to adapt to real
industry situations and are assigned practical projects, which equip them for decision-making
in a realistic environment. The internship also helps strengthen the relationship between
industry and students.

Design Collection/Diploma Project: The graduation project undertaken by students


encapsulates the various skills imbibed during the course of study. The industry-sponsored
project provides a challenging platform for students to extend and demonstrate academic
learning.

2) A.D (Interior products and Handcrafted Accessories)
3) T.D (Textile Design)
4) K.D (Knitwear Design)
5) F.C (Fashion Communication)
6) A.P (Bachelor Programmes (B.FTech) - Apparel Production)
7) M.F.M (Masters of Fashion Management).
8) Fashion Brand Management.( 6 Month course)

MFM:-

The objective of the two year Master Programme in Fashion Management (erstwhile AMM)
that started in 1987 is to develop managerial skills in the field of fashion marketing,
merchandising and retailing best suited to the requirements of the garment export and fashion
retail sectors. Students are exposed to creative merchandising/marketing, innovative fashion
management practices, fashion forecasting and trends and business practices through field
visits and industry internships.
The programme inculcates in the students the right attitude to be part of the middle
management of any growing organisation.

Career in MFM:-

The programme offers a solid platform for those wishing to pursue careers in International
Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, Brand Management, Retail Buying and Global Sourcing,
Product Development, Retail Management, Visual Merchandising, Export Merchandising,
etc.the mostly visited company in nift are

INTROUDUCTION TO THE TOPIC:

The topic deals with the career opportunities of M.F.M programme at Hyderabad. What kinds
of employment opportunity expected by the nift Hyderabad students. The perception of
students regarding last year passing student, the remuneration they are expecting to get after
completion of this course. The usefulness of the course. These are the few area which will be
covered by the research apart from the actual objective. The research is conducted with a
specimen of 22 final year M.F.M students with the help of the employment related
questionnaire.

METHODOLOGY:-

1. collection of primary data from final year MFM students

2. employment questionnaire is distributed that coveris60% students in M.F.M final year


students

3. Result is expressed in terms of percentages.

ANALYSIS:

1. The first question asked in the questioner is that in which area the students want to work.
Out of 22 students, maximum number of students wants to work with retail sector as well as
in branding

2...2nd question is, the opinion about previous year’s placement programme.Nearly half of
the students (60 %) said that the programme is average .20%think the placement was fair

3. The 3rd question is about the course, 90 % students feel that the M.F.M course provide
enough knowledge

4. Forth question is about C.G.P.A. Nearly 50% of the students feel that that C.G.P.A
won’t help to getting placement and 30% say that it will affect remaining person aresay it may
effect or may not.

5. The 5th question related to skill in which 70% preferred communication skill and 20% think
technical skill is required to achieve his/her goal.
6. The 6th question is about the remuneration; nearly 75% want to start their job with 3-4 lakhs
remuneration.20%think start with 4-5 lakh remuneration.

7. The 5th question related to skill in which 70% preferred communication skill and 20% think
technical skill is required to achieve his/her goal .
8. 7th question regarding there future will they like to continue there job in fashion 645%
student would like to change his/ her career

FINDINGS:

1) Most of people start their career in retailing and buying houses


2) Students want to change their career after completion of programme. some wants in
advertising, education etc
3) Student think that there is less requirement of c.g.p.a need to improve their
communication skill as well as technical skill
4) Student wants that there should be more technical knowledge introduced.

CONCLUSION:

1. By the primary data its conclude that communication skill , prenentation skill related
programme should be introduced on regular basis

2. As student having more interest in retail or branding there should regular assignment on
retailing or practical knowledge, visiting tour introduced

LIMITATION:-

1. The research is conducted only in Hyderabad particularly for M.F.M due to less
availability of time, manpower.

2. The samples size is very small due to the fact that the population is not available at the
point of survey.
