Mayor, City of South Bend

Re: South Shore Train Station Location

Dear Mayor Pete:

As you know, Downtown South Bend, Inc. (DTSB) is dedicated to the continued growth and prosperity of
downtown South Bend, its businesses and their employees, and its residents. DTSB regularly supports
strategic initiatives that play a significant role in the dynamic of the downtown landscape, a landscape
that is changing and progressing every day. Recently, the DTSB Board of Directors has considered the
City’s reports and plans on the potential relocation of the South Shore Train Station, along with other
transportation solutions. The DTSB Board has heard presentations over the past several weeks and met
to discuss and debate the alternate locations for the South Shore Train. After review and discussion,
DTSB wishes to convey its support for a South Shore Station in downtown South Bend, taking into
consideration and requesting further analysis as to the following criteria:

 Total project cost

 Funding mechanisms and availability of grants
 Return on investment, which includes a sustainable transportation infrastructure
 Economic impact
 Timeline for project completion
 Safety, parking, and convenience

DTSB welcomes and is excited about a project of this magnitude, as it has potential to positively affect
not only downtown South Bend, but the surrounding community for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Jill Scicchitano
Executive Director
Downtown South Bend, Inc.
