The GPSA website says that in the 13th edition major changes and updates have been done

to the
databook. I am quoting what they have mentioned on their website:

- Section 3 (Measurement) has new sections for gas and flare measurements

- Section 4 (Instrumentation) has new topics dealing with safety instrumented systems and facility
network and control systems. Major revisions to Section 5 (Relief Systems), Section 7 (Separation
Equipment), Section 13 (Compressors and Expanders), Section 16 (Hydrocarbon Recovery) and Section
21 (Hydrocarbon Treating), Section 23 (Physical Properties) and Section 25 (Phase Equilibria)

- Section 8 (Fired Equipment) includes expanded information on low NOx burners and NOx control, plus
discussions on thermal efficiency for firetube heaters.

- Section 11 (Cooling Towers) adds new topics addressing environmental factors, basin design
considerations and saltwater cooling towers

- Section 12 (Pumps and Hydraulic Turbines) has a new and simplified pump efficiency chart with the
most current data

- Section 22 (Sulfur Recovery) incorporates updates to the oligomer equilibrium chart, and has new
sulfur thermodynamic data for tables, charts and sample calculation

- Section 24 (Thermodynamic Properties) includes new subject matter on acid gas, and rare gas
enthalpy and entropy

Plus more new information, specifications and guidelines in other sections

In addition some other changes that I noticed are mentioned below:

- Section 18 which was earlier titled as "Water Treating" has been given a new title "Utilities" which now
includes "Steam Systems", Heating Medium Systems", Instrument Air Systems", "Nitrogen Systems",
"Fuel Systems", "Water Treating Systems", "Electrical Systems"

- Section 20 - Dehydration has modified constants based on SI units for the Ergun equation for
superficial velocity in mole sieve beds. The Ergun equation is used for determining the superficial
velocity for mole sieve beds for natural gas dehydration. In fact in the previous edition, the constants for
the superficial velocity based on the Ergun equation were the same for both English units and SI units
which was not correct.

- Section 17 - Fluid Flow and Piping has corrected the error in the equation 17-13. Both the Spitzglass
and the Panhandle B equation for single phase gas flow have been modified in line with the
requirements of SI units.

- Section 3 - Measurement. As part of this section an excel workbook for orifice sizing calculations using
both English and SI units has been provided which deals with both gases and liquids. Examples for
natural gas, steam and natural gas liquids are used for calculations in this workbook which provide flow
rates for various orifice sizes. Two excel sheets - one providing calculations for orifice well test and
another for pipe rupture is also part of this workbook.

In a nutshell the GPSA Databook 13th Edition, SI units has fixed errors and modified equations based on
real SI units in comparison with the older 12th Edition. New portions have been added keeping in mind
the developments that have taken place in the past 6-8 years in the oil & gas sector of chemical
engineering.
