Definition of APA Style Manual:
APA style is a format for academic documents such as journal articles and
books. It is codified in the style guide of the American Psychological
Association (APA), titled the Publication Manual of the American
Psychological Association.
Rules or Guidelines:
APA Style consists of rules or guidelines that a publisher observes to
ensure clear and consistent presentation of written material. It concerns
uniform use of such elements as
selection of headings, tone, and length;
punctuation and abbreviations;
presentation of numbers and statistics;
construction of tables and figures,
citation of references; and
many other elements that are a part of a manuscript
The basic structure for a paper in APA style includes four components:
1. Cover or title page
2. Abstract
3. Body of the paper
4. Reference section
APA citation basics:
When using APA format, follow the author-date method of in-text citation.
This means that the author's last name and the year of publication for the
source should appear in the text.
For Example:
(Jones, 1998), and a complete reference should appear in the reference list
at the end of the paper.
References:
The basic structure of a reference goes like this:
Author’s name.
Date of publication.
Title information.
Publication information.
For Example:
Johnson, J. (1989). The world of children. New York: Macmillan.
