BACKGROUND
Double burden of malnutrition i.e characterised by the coexistence of undernutrition along with
overweight and obesity within individuals, households and populations, and across the life-course is
a unique problem faced by health or nutritional practitioner. Large amount of data are still needed to
be collected for emphasizing and making any consideration of this problem.
OBJECTIVE
To measure the proportion of children with malnutrition in terms of undernutrition or overweight and
obesity
METHODS
A cross sectional study are conducted in conjunction with the National Health Day (Hari Kesehatan
Nasional or HKN) festival on preschool age children held by principal of sub-district of Kabuh, a
rural area in Jombang county. Body weight and height are measured, then nutritional status was
determined by Waterlow’s criteria, and for whose are BW more than 110% of ideal body weight then
body mass index (BMI) is calculated, and plotted to BMI for age CDC chart according to gender.
RESULTS
There were 72 boys and 147 girls enrolled, which age from 5 to 6.85 y.o (mean 5.68, SD 0.48).
These subjects were representation of 924 children that registered on 18 kindergartens in Sub-
District of Kabuh.
CONCLUSIONS
Double burden of malnutrition was found in rural area in sub-district of Kabuh, Jombang. There
should be more serious attention and proper management from health providers and stakeholders.
