Lesson idea implementation

After the students have done the flipped classroom assignment from the previous night, they will get into
groups of 3 and share with the group the things that they found in their environment that were living and
nonliving. They will then create a blog to share their information. They will create an audio recording
explaining ways they know if the things they chose are living or nonliving. They will also include pictures that
they find that resemble the ones that they drew to post to the blog or they could take pictures of what they
drew and upload it into the blog post for originality.
Students will use prior knowledge as well as classroom resources to complete the activity. Presenting their
information by posting it on the blog allows students to see and hear information which is beneficial to
students with varying abilities as well as allow them to go back and review. I would use this assignment as a
conclusion of the unit on living and nonliving things. This assignment should take about 2 days to complete.
Importance of technology
Using a website-creation tool creates a home school connection. Parents and caretakers can see what the
students are learning and what they have learned. It also gives the students a sense of pride in what they
have created. This assignment creates higher order thinking that as well could not be fulfilled in the
traditional way of writing or typing a paper. This assignment would utilize different tools like Audacity for the
audio aspect of the blog post.
Inspiration (optional
Internet Safety and Student Privacy
Internet safety is of highest importance for the students in my classroom. The internet can be a great
resource for information, but it can also be a playground for predators. To ensure that I am protecting the

safety of the students, I will make sure that the students’ work will be password protected and only the
parents will be able to access the work. I will also make sure that I have parental consent for the students’
work to be shared. I will also use the students’ initials on their work instead of their full names. I will also not
post photos of the students that show their faces without parental consent.
Reflective Practice:
I think this assignment impacted student learning by getting them exposed to different technological tools.
The world is becoming more and more dependent on technology, and I think this assignment will give them
the push in the right direction of being good digital citizens and technologically savvy.
To further enhance the technology used in the blog post, students could also make their own videos.
