Convert among different-sized standard measurement units (mass, weight, length, time,
etc.) within a given measurement system (customary and metric) (e.g., convert 5cm to
0.05m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real word problems

Technology Standard Addressed: ISTE Level 3 – Knowledge Constructor: Students critically curate a variety
of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful
learning experiences for themselves and others.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

For the ESL students within the class, I would pull from the videos in their native language. They can
listen to the video as many times as they would like to fully understand the concept, also as they
access it from home they are given opportunity to show their parents the video to further their
understanding of the English language.

Lesson idea implementation:
The BrainPop video will be used to introduce a study on the metric and customary systems of
measurement. The teacher will lead a discussion of metric vs customary measurements, encouraging
students to name measurements for each category. After watching the video, students will divide into
small review groups. Using available resources from the Media Center, students will review the topic
by taking a quiz, playing a game, and creating a map or coding product, as well as completing a few
printed activities
Reflective Practice:
Extending this project might involve publishing the student work on the school or classroom
blog. A PTA presentation could be developed to share the projects with the parents, staff,
and students at the school.
