Hope for the Hurting

Do you know someone who is grieving? There are a many in our church that
are grieving for various reasons. Would you help us help them? Art Long
will be leading a onetime Grief Help Development class. We will share some
resources, but most of all we want to hear and learn from your experience
with grief. If you are dealing with grief now, this would be a great opportunity
to listen and learn. We would love your input on how we can help others.

I want to brag about our two amazing Sunday
worship services. Few churches are able to provide two
inspiring and effective, yet different worship services the
way we do. Our two morning worship services are not
identical clones of one another. One is more traditional
in style, and the other includes some traditional but
more modern. It is rare that a church can do this with
such excellence. We are truly blessed.
Some don’t consider our two different worship
services to be a blessing. They prefer us all to be
identical. Though rare, some will criticize the other style.
In some churches this has become so severe that the
church divided and died over the issue of worshipping
God. (I can almost see Satan gloating.)
Fortunately, by God’s grace, Eastmont has a better
understanding of what God is doing in our culture. As
Dorothy said “Toto, I’ve a feeling we are not in Kansas
anymore.” Nor are we in the 1950’s anymore. (That’s
where I grew up) Like the early church we have adapted
to change so that all God’s family might glorify Him in
the way that best stirs their soul. It would be easy to
provide one style. Less complicated, less costly, less
criticism. But it also would produce far less worshipers.
People vote with their feet.
The generations of my children and grandchildren
would not have stayed in the type church I grew up in.
It has nothing to do with their love of God. They love
God with all their heart. It has everything to do with
expressing their love for God in the deepest way. King
David sang a “new song” because the old songs didn’t
fully express his passion of our Lord.
Thank you Eastmont for recognizing how different
God made us all. Thank you Eastmont for being a
permission giving church that has allowed us to expand
and grow. Thank you Eastmont for allowing us “senior
saints” to still worship God in a style that best connects
our spirit to God. And thank you Eastmont for having a
kingdom focus not just an Eastmont focus.

BISCUITS BASEBALL SIGNUP
Sunday, July 22, the student ministry will attend a Biscuits
baseball game at Riverwalk Stadium. The cost to attend is
$10 per person. If you wish to attend and have not signed
up yet, call the office and speak to Cleve or Karen.
SPEAK Conference, July 20-21
Eastmont will host this year’s SPEAK Conference
(formerly Youth Evangelism Conference) hosting students
from across the state. REND COLLECTIVE will be in
concert. There is a need for volunteers in many areas on
Friday and Saturday. Speak to Cleve for more info on how
to be involved.
7UP, SLIP-N-SLIDE PARTY
Sunday, July 29, the student ministry invites all the
upcoming 7th graders join us at the annual slip-n-slide on
the Bowling Green property. We will slide from 5pm until
7pm. There will be a short meeting for parents also at the
start.
1J2 WEEK
Monday, June 30, through Friday August 3, the student
ministry will again carry out its 1J2 Ministry at two
locations: Hyde Park and Highland Gardens Baptist
Church. More details are available with Cleve.
