In order to assemble and repair devices, electronic technicians need to interpret diagrams
representing the layout of circuits. Technical literature uses different types of diagrams but
the most common one is the schematic. A schematic is a diagram that shows the
configuration of the circuit using graphical symbols to represent is various elements. The
schematic makes easier to understand the operation of the circuit, explaining its function
and interconnections.
When describing the configuration of the circuit the following terms are commonly used to
refer to the interconnections; any point of a component to which a conductor is attached is
called a terminal; any section of a circuit between two terminals is a branch; any point at
which conductors from two or more elements join is called a node; any specified sequence
of braches is a path and a closed path is a loop; any series of branches which form a
complete loop is mesh.

Figure 3.1 show a phase-shift oscillator circuit. The principle __of______ the phase-shift
oscillator is to have a phase shift ____on_____ 180 degrees ___in______ the feedback
network and 180 ___in________ the transistor, so that positive feedback is obtained. The
feedback __of_______ the circuit shown contains three RC sections (R1C1, R2C2, R3C3
______in______ Figure 3.1). The phase ______across______ of signal shifts 60 degrees
____at______ each one _______of_______ the RC sections. The capacitive reactance
_____on______ each section depends ___________of___ the frequency, therefore the
required 180 degrees phase shift occurs only ______in____ one frequency, which is the
oscillator frequency.
