BOMBSHELL: HOW CAN DONOVAN FIGHT PUBLIC CORRUPTION WHEN HE TURNED A

BLIND EYE TO STATEN ISLAND POLITICAL CESSPOOL & TOOK MOB MONEY?

Donovan's Failed Record -- and Proximity to Public Corruption -- Revealed In New Investigative
Report

Schneiderman Campaign Calls on Donovan to Answer Why He Ignored Public Corruption in His
Own Backyard & to Return Mob-Linked Campaign Contributions

NEW YORK - Attorney General Candidate Dan Donovan's Campaign is facing fresh questions
after the publication of a new report by investigative reporter Tom Robbins, "Dan Donovan's
Messy Backyard," reveals that while climbing the ranks of the Staten Island political machine as
a loyal foot soldier to Borough President Guy Molinari, Donovan was part of an ethically
challenged machine whose cronies engaged in numerous corrupt activities. In addition, the
report finds Donovan's subsequent record addressing public corruption to be sorely lacking, with
Donovan's own spokesman admitting "we haven't had any of these" cases during his tenure as
Staten Island District Attorney, and Donovan accepting campaign contributions from entities
linked to mob activity.

"Just this week, Andrew Cuomo, over 50 prosecutors, and even a Republican former public
safety official, all endorsed Eric Schneiderman because they believe his record cracking down
on public corruption stands in great contrast to Dan Donovan, the former right-hand man and
political aide to a political machine boss, who has no record policing public corruption and took
money from groups linked to mob activity. There are several questions Mr. Donovan must now
answer for voters, chief among them: Why would anyone believe he will root out public
corruption in Albany, when he has failed to do so in his own backyard?" said Schneiderman
spokesman James Freedland. "And will Mr. Donovan return the contributions from 'Chubby'
Calcagno, a co-conspirator in a mob-related shipping terminal case, who later pled guilty to a
federal tax rap for hiding more than $1 million in income?"

Team Schneiderman outlined the following questions raised by the Village Voice report:

1) Why did Donovan take $5,000 in contributions from "Chubby" Calcagno, a co-conspirator in a
mob-related shipping terminal case, who, according to the report, later "pled guilty to a federal
tax rap for hiding more than $1 million in income. He got probation and a $400,000 fine. He's
apparently done well since: In May, he donated $5,000 to Donovan's campaign through three
separate real estate corporations."
Will Donovan return this money?
2) What did Donovan know about his Staten Island Borough President Office colleague's
scheme to help the Genovese crime family shake down vendors at Little Italy's San Gennaro
street fair?

3) Did Donovan ever consider alerting authorities to Leonard Cerami's job as an all-around
political go-fer for Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari?

4) What did Donovan know about city employee Daniel Carrique's December 2000 stint in
Florida on city time organizing political protests against the presidential recount for George W.
Bush?

5) Did Donovan ever raise an objection to the wasted $126 million that was paid to his mentor
Guy Molinari's developer pal to build housing for the Navy near the planned Homeport, that was
ultimately never built?

6) Did Donovan ever feel at all uneasy about Molinari making a $100,000 profit by selling his
own parcel to the builder, Robert Mazzuoccola, whose partners in other projects included a pair
of Colombo crime family captains?

7) How will Donovan take on public-corruption when by his own spokesman's admission, "we
haven't had any of these" cases during Donovan's tenure as Staten Island District Attorney?
