SS/Science Unit 11:

Structures and Functions

In this unit, students will learn about the following topics:

 Understand the following vocabulary terms:

o Structure- the physical appearance of an organism
o Function- what different structures of an organism do, or
what these structures are used for

 Identify different structures in plants and animals (Examples of

structures of a dog are tail and fur)

 Identify different functions in plants and animals (Examples of

functions of a dog are tails are used to show emotion and move
the center of gravity, fur is used to protect the dog)

 Describe how structures and functions help plants and animals

survive
