School Counseling Program Mission Statement


The mission of the Shepard IB Magnet Middle School Counseling Program is to provide a
learning environment that promotes the academic, career, and personal/social development of all
students. School counselors are advocates who provide support to help students experience
success and achieve his/her fullest potential. In partnership with administrators, teachers,
parents/guardians, and the community, school counselors facilitate and support the system to
ensure all students at Shepard IB Magnet Middle have access to a premier educational
environment, where all students obtain the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to live
enriched lives as productive members of society.

School Counseling Program Goals


The goals of our school counseling program will focus on addressing the needs of our
students based on academic, personal/social and career needs. We will assist and support
students in combating social issues that interfere with their academic success. We will utilize
the ASCA model guideline to serve our student population.

Program Goal Statements


1 To enhance the Brother 2 Brother and Sister 2 Sister mentoring program
2 Groups and Classroom presentations will be implemented based on the school needs
survey which will be administered in September 2017. However, test taking and study
skill groups will be included.
3 We will foster career awareness and future readiness through career and classroom
guidance activities.

The school counseling advisory council will meet on the following dates.
The School Improvement Team will serve as the advisory council and will meet once a
month.
