HPPK (6-Hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin pyrophosphokinase) is an important enzyme in the pathway

that leads to pyrophosphoryl transfer from ATP to 6-hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin. By studying the

mechanism of HPPK, scientists have determined that it’s a potential target for developing “novel
microbial agents.”

In the article, scientists also explain how they came up with a new compound that would act in complex
with HPPK. By improving linker properties within HPPK, it seems that the new compound, with its new
interactions, can lead scientists in a direction not seen before.
