TREX is Text Retrievel and Information Extraction Engine.

TREX Engine is used in Knowledge


Management to search the structured and unstructured information from various file
Repositries.

To register TREX with the Portal, we have to first locate the name server and port of the
TREX Installation.

This is located in sapmsg.ini.

we have to then set up the TREX name server in the J2EE Engine with the Visual
Administrator.

Procedure:

1) Go the installation folder where TREX is installed.

2) Open sapprofile.ini, in notepad and make a note of port number, usually it is 30001.

3) Start Visual Administrator and the way to do is

a) Go to Server Installed path i.e. usr\sap\<systemid>\<systeminstance>\J2ee\admin

b) Choose go.bat and start it.

4) Choose Global Configuration à Services à TREX Service.

5) Select the nameserver.address properties field

6) Enter the server name of the TREX instance and the port number.

7) Choose Update.

8) Choose the Save button.

9) Select Yes to restart the TREX Service.

10) Exit the Visual Administrator.

11) Now to check the connection in the portal, we need to have Super Administrator
permissions in the Portal.

12) Log on to Portal

13) Choose System Administration -> Monitoring -> Knowledge Management -> TREX
Monitor -> Server Status.
You should see the status of the HTTP Server, Name Server, Queue Server, and Index
Server is Available.
