VANDENBURGH PLEDGES TO OPPOSE ANY TAX INCREASE ON HOOSIERS

Promises to create jobs and curb wasteful government spending

Crown Point – Shelli VanDenburgh, state representative in House District 19, today voiced her opposition to any
effort to raise taxes on the people of her district during the next legislative session. VanDenburgh’s pledge comes
after the Indiana Fiscal Institute’s announcement on Thursday that the State would have to raise taxes when
writing the next state budget.

“As I’ve gone door to door, it’s clear that it is not the time to be raising taxes. Families are struggling to make
ends meet and we shouldn’t add to it with more taxes and fees,” VanDenburgh said. “The Indiana Fiscal Institute
must not be listening to Hoosiers.”

VanDenburgh made a pledge that she will oppose any bill next session that would raise taxes on the families and
working people of House District 19. She said the State must look for more ways to create jobs, cut wasteful
spending, crack down on tax cheats, and hold companies who receive state tax dollars accountable for the
promises they make to create jobs.

“Revenues are down because there are over 320,000 Hoosiers out of a job, and consumer confidence is low. We
need to focus on rebuilding our economy and putting Hoosiers back to work,” VanDenburgh said. “We need to be
talking about job increases not tax increases. For every 10,000 jobs created, the state sees $30 million in tax
revenue, and an estimated $200 million spent on consumer goods in Indiana.”

VanDenburgh pointed to recent reports out of Indianapolis that tax dollars are going to hundreds of companies
that don’t create the jobs they promised.

“Indianapolis is saying they need another tax increase. I simply cannot support anyone asking the hard working
families in our district to bear a bigger tax burden. Especially when I know those taxes will only be going to pay for
more wasteful government spending, pet projects, bailouts, and funneling money to companies that fail to create
jobs,” said VanDenburgh.

“Jobs are the answer, not tax increases,” VanDenburgh said. “More jobs will mean more state sales and income
tax revenue without any tax increase on Hoosiers. Getting more Hoosiers to work and making sure we expose tax
cheats must be done before we even consider increasing taxes in Indiana working families.”

VanDenburgh plans to announce her proposals on job creation, improving education, and making government
more transparent in the coming weeks.

“Hoosiers need leadership that is truly accountable and will stand up to Indianapolis politicians who are out to
only do what is best for Indianapolis,” VanDenburgh said. “We are elected to make tough choices and fight for the
people we represent, in this case there is no choice, we cannot raise taxes on Hoosier families.”
