1. Project Title Smart Satay

2. Project Background Smart Satay is a grill type port which can grill the Satay without the
help of charcoal fire. It enables user to grill the satay which is
suitable for indoor grilling. Smart Stay will be a smoked free and
carbon free. This project has the potential to in enabling a new
concept satay stall.

3. Problem Statement 1) Satay still been grilled in a traditional way using charcoal which will
take long time to grill.

2) Most hawkers grill their satay in outdoor only.

3) The traditional way to grill satay produces smoke which is not an


eco-friendly.

4) The charred satay is composed primarily with carbon which is not


healthy and can cause cancer.

4. Project Objectives The aim of this project is to design a portable satay cooker that can
prepare a healthier and tastier satay dish in an easier way.

The main objective is:

1) To investigate electric heating circuits that can prepare a healthier


and tastier satay dish in an easier way
2) To design a smokeless satay cooker that can cook the satay easier
3) To develop a portable satay cooker that can be used for indoor
application

5. Project Scopes This Engineering Team Project (ETP) entitled “Smart Satay” will be
focused on the design, analysis, development, and construction of the
project. Our project consists of hardware development and software
simulation.

These components will be used for hardware development: Arduino


board, chain, and sprocket, Bearing, Temperature sensor,
Breadboard, Jumper wires, Speed controller, Stainless steel, Toggle
switch button, Heating coil, 16X2 LCD, Motor, and Relay Module.

1. Arduino board is used to allow interface with between the


hardware that are assembled onto it to initiate the project.
2. A sprocket or sprocket-wheel is a profiled wheel with teeth, or cogs,
that mesh with a chain which will carry the Satay Sticks.

3. Bearing is used to provide movement for the chain and sprocket.

4. Temperature Sensor will provide for temperature measurement


through an electrical signal which will determine the heat at the
heating coil.

5. Relay module is used as the switch to control the current go


through or not. It will merge with the Arduino to control the relay.

6. Stainless steel is used to prevent rust.

7. Speed Controller is used as the purpose to vary the motor’s speed,


direction and as brake.

8. The LED is to display the current action on the project on-going. The
toggle switch button is to allow user to change setting between 2
states.

As for software, we will use Arduino to design the coding text for the
Arduino board and AutoCAD to design and sketch the project.

Methodologies &
Flowchart Appendix 1 shows the general flow chart of this project that will
focus on design stage of the circuit as well as components’
identification. Later, the hardware implementation will be based on
the designed circuits. The hardware prototype will be tested to
satisfy the project’s objectives.

Appendix 2 shows the detailed flow chart on this project of “Smart


Satay”.
Firstly, the Smart Satay will be turned ON and will be leave about 2
minutes for the heater to be warm up. Later, set up the temperature
to 180°C and the duration of heating at 5 minutes.
Secondly, the Satay stick will be place on the satay hook at the
conveyor belt.
Thirdly, the motor will begin to rotate the conveyor and enter to the
heater for the satay to be grilled.
Finally, the conveyor will bring the grilled satay at the end and drop
it on a plate. The satays are ready to be served.

Appendix 2 : Technical Flow Chart

START

1.Warm up the heater for 2 minutes


2.Set up the temperature to 180°C
3.Set the duration of heating at 5 minutes
