INTRODUCTION
 The SHIVALIK HILLS are the geologically youngest
east-west mountain chain of the HIMALAYAS
AND
as depicted in the name, the SHIVALIK HOSTEL
accommodates the freshers i.e. 1st &2nd yearites.
INFRASTRUCTURE &
ADMINISTRATION
 The building consists of three blocks-A, B & C
 Block B was constructed in 1952 while block A
was constructed 3-4 years later
 The chief warden is Prof. Sanjeev Kumar and
he is assisted by the accountant Mr. ----------
and attendant Mr.--------------
LIFESTYLE OF STUDENTS
 Students sleep late at night generally about
2am

 They have to wash their clothes themselves

 Beating the birthday boy with a belt


and having party all night has become
a tradition in the hostel
Common room
Wi-Fi PROBLEM
 The speed of Wi-Fi is very low
 The average speed of Wi-Fi in PEC
is about 512kbps as compared to about
90mbps in IIT’s.
 Students are unable to download important
information from internet
HOSTEL MESS
 Poor quality of meals served
 Fixed menu
 Poor raw materials used
 Sometimes leftover dishwasher is found on dishes
 No proper food storage space
 Indisciplined mess staff
 Improper timings

SANITATION
 No proper cleanliness done by
workers
 Mosquitoes and insects
 Dustbins are found overflowing with garbage
Water clogging
INDIFFERENT ATTITUDE OF
WORKERS
 Sweepers don’t clean the rooms on a daily basis

 Gardens are not well maintained

 The workers are very hostile if you


ask them to do some work

INADEQUATE WATER SUPPLY
 There is no water supply from 10 a.m. in the
morning to 7 p.m. in the evening in block B
 Geysers don’t work properly and long queues
of students can be seen waiting for hot water
 In some cases even drinking water was not
available in water coolers
RECREATION
There are various recreational facilities
available like :
For indoor games:-
Snooker room
Table tennis room
For outdoor games:-
Volleyball playground
GATE NO. 4
 Officially there are three entrances
to PEC University of Technology
But the students of Shivalik hostel
have discovered a new entrance
to the hostel through gate no.4
 It is like the suez canal connecting
PEC with Nayagaon market in a
shortcut way
RECENT HAPPENINGS
 An insect was found in drinking water
 Fluctuating electric power supply during
mid-term exams
 Hunger strike was organised to protest
against poor quality of meals served
 Construction of new washrooms in block A

SOLUTIONS
 Change of attitude of officials and linkage of their
salary with their performance
 There should be surprise and regular inspection
 of the hostel premises
 A feedback mechanism should be introduced so
 that quality of meals served is checked
 Water storage facilities should be enhanced so that
proper water supply is maintained

CONCLUSION
 Despite all the problems associated with the hostel,
 life in the hostel continues to be one of the best
 periods in our lives .From the time we entered the
hostel ,to the time we leave it , we become a
transformed person . We learn to adjust to various
circumstances , to respect seniors and handle our
subordinates, helping in our professional life.
