Colored Cubes

Tri-Valley 4th/5th Problem Solving

The Challenge Extend

Student work
Sierra & Danika
For the 4 x 4 x 4, our number of 3 colored faces was 8, our number of 2 colored faces
was 24, our number of 1 colored faces was 24, our number of 0 colored faces was 8, and
our # of cubes was 104. We used a 4 x 4 x 4 block and we drew a picture of the same block
on paper. To find the number of blocks inside the cube, we took a layer away from each
side, including the top and bottom. There were 8 little cubes left. Then, we added 8 to 96,
which was the amount of cubes on the outside, and got 104.
Colten & Cordell
The green stands for 3 colored faces. The blue stands for 2 colored
faces. The black stands for the 1 colored. The orange stands for 0
colored faces. So if you count all the green you get 8 and if you count
The blue you will get 24. if you also count the black you get also get
24. Then you count the orange and you will get 8
make sure you do not count the same one over again because it will
change the whole number/answer then if you add all the numbers
you will get 64

We drew a picture on graph paper and it showed how many faces
Mike & Iris were colored on each cube. . For example in the middle there are four
faces that only have one side that is colored.
Morgan & Elijah

we flattened the cube out then did experiments with

it then we counted how many blocks are in each
square then multiplied it by six because there are
six sides on a cube Then we looked for two sided
blocks, one sided blocks, and three sided
blocks.We got 8 3 sided blocks, 24 2 sided
blocks,24 1 sided blocks,8 blocks in the middle,and
104 blocks in all.

In this picture we flattened out the

cube

We counted the blocks here

Evan & David
Me and Evan drew a picture of a split block Then we
counted how many there are in the picture next we built a
model in a colored blocks and we saw how many had
0123 and added them and goat the answer to the problem
Florence & Addison
First we figured out the 3 colored
faces then we did the 2 colored faces
then we did 1 colored faces at last we
did the 0 colored faces finally added
them together .To check answer we
made a 4 by 4 by 4 cube.
Matthew & Taylor
So we built this model of a 4 x 4 x 4 first we made these boxes with graph paper and then
we thought that the little blocks would work better and more simple than making graph
paper blocks till we made a 4x4x4 model and then we started to make a model of a 4x4x4
model with little blocks and then when we got close to the end of the 4 x 4 x 4 model it
broke so then we had to make it again.

We used this paper cube to find out
how many cubes were 1,2,3 sided.
For three colored sided we got 8.
For two colored sided we got 24.
for one colored sided we got 24.
And for zero sided we got 8. And
there are 64 blocks.

4 times 4 =16 then we divided 16 by 3,2,1.we only had 1 left over and that was when we trid 16 divided by 3
this modal shows the way we divided in a visual model.
Reid & Izzy

What we did was we made a paper model of 4x4x4

with graph paper. We found out that it had 8 three
colored faces, 8 two colored faces, 36 one colored
faces, and 16 0 colored faces. All together there was
68 cubes.
