The Iowa Caucuses

Primary elections and caucuses are two different routes that accomplish the same thing.

They both award delegates to their party’s conventions to nominate who will be on the ballot to

run for President of the United States. These national conventions are held every four years

during the summer prior the presidential election. They are two entirely different processes ran

by each state and its own political parties.

States that have primaries choose their delegates to go to convention are like any other

election. They are organized and paid for by the State. There are people choose run for office

from their political party. These individuals campaign and give speeches. They are voted on by

secret ballot voting. Who wins gets the state’s delegates to go to their party’s national

convention.

States that have the caucus form of choosing delegates is very different, varies from state

to state and political party to party within the state. It is far more complicated and complex to

understand. The caucuses are organized by their political party and paid for. They work in many

different ways, helping to assist each political party decide on who they will be sending to the

national convention. Party members that choose caucus for selecting delegates are more grass

root base supporters. People who support the caucus form of delegate selection also feel that the

primary purpose of caucuses are to help in eliminating the weak from the strong to narrow each

political party down to a fewer candidates. Places are selected to have meetings whether homes
or public buildings. Candidates give speeches trying to get votes. There can be secret ballots or

public vote to decide who will the delegate from that area.

The Republican and Democrat Caucus vary. The Republic caucus groups have secret

ballot voting by precinct. The Democrats have a far more complicated way of caucus voting.

They gather at meeting places of which there are about 1,700 precincts state wide. Each

candidate presents his stand. People try to get others to join their group.

The Iowa Caucus has taken on big importance in the national political scene for several

reasons. First of all, this is the first of states that selects their delegates. As the first state in the

nation, the news media and political organizations and supporters have a chance to see who and

the percentages if support for each candidate. The Iowa Caucus has been looked at in various

important ways and believed to be a strong indicator of the presidential nominee. The caucus’

has been crucial in a wide-ranging ways. Indicators for which party may possibly win, eliminate

weak candidates or by assisting them in building up their momentum for the run of presidency

election. Iowa has become the sneak-peak at what lies ahead for Presidential election in the fall.

Part 3Not sure if we are supposed to do this sense we don’t have groups and don’t really

recall discussing this in class. However I would not use any methods since Jed Bush did not win

and had to drop out. I like the old fashioned way of majority wins or by pulling straws. For me

personally there is no criteria that seems fair enough when using these methods. I believe in

whom has the most qualifications or who has the most logical plan and who appeals to most of

the people. Which this just brings me back to the majority or plurality voting criteria. I am a

diehard republican, but there is two debates I stay out of which is politics and religion.

of our decisions play a huge factor on how we live and how we address the rest of our days

living here on earth. Making life altering decisions, while being deprived or not cognitive of my

three crucial steps in life, results in poor outcomes.

these three words to your life: awareness, acceptance and action, positive outcomes are possible.

They will allow you to make clear, precise and informative decisions with the best probability

and result that you could hope for. Awareness is gathering more information, “The Facts”.
Acceptance is “Analysis” and action is “Decision”, the way that choice will address the situation.

In Quantitative reasoning, this is how we do the research and gather information, what the

relative outcomes will be and allow us to make clear, positive results and enjoy life to its fullest!
