STOP MARINE POLLUTION

Plastics pollution in the ocean can kill marine animals. These creatures can be trapped in fish
nets or starved to death after eating particles that can’t be absorbed by the body.
Facts :

1. Each year, plastics have 'killed' up to 1 million seabirds, 100,000 marine mammals and
countless fish.
2. 44 percent of all seabird species, 22 percent of cetaceans, all sea turtle species and a
growing list of fish species have been documented with plastic in or around their bodies
3. Many turtles on Seribu Island die from plastic food which they misinterprete as jellyfish,
the food they love
4. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which is a floating landfill of garbage in the Pacific
twice the size of Texas, is mostly composed of plastic.
 160,000 plastic bags are used globally every second!
 5 trillion plastic bags are produced yearly. Side by side, they can encircle the world 7
times.
 Only 1 to 3% of plastic bags are recycled worldwide.
 Plastic will only start degrading after 700 years and will only fully degrade in 1000 years.
 Plastic bags remain toxic even after it breaks down.

Other Impacts :

 marine ecosystem in disruption

 Animals living in these areas are experiencing significant harm from the plastic. Animals
living in these areas are experiencing significant harm from the plastic
 The garbage blocks sunlight, so algae is not growing as it should. With less algae, the
entire food chain is experiencing a negative disruption

Cause :

 High usage of plastic

 Plastic waste is hard to be degradable
 No proper recycling method for plastic waste
 Low awareness on environmental issues
