An ethanol (A)-water (B) solution in the form of a stagnant film 2.0 mm thick at
293 K is in constant at one surface with an organic solvent in which ethanol is
soluble and water is insoluble. Hence, NB = 0. At point 1 the concentration of
ethanol is 16.8 wt % and the solution density is ρ1 (kg/m3). At point 2 the
concentration of ethanol is 6.8 wt % and ρ2 (kg/m3).The diffusivity of ethanol is
0.740 x 10-9 m2/s.
Calculate the steady-state flux Na by entering random density values for p1 and
p2.
Given m1= 20.07, m2= 18.7, xb1=0.9268, xb2=0.9723, xa1= 0.0732, xa2=0.0277
Terms used in matlab.
p= density
x= mole fraction
dab=diffusivity
m= molecular weight
xbm= average mole fraction.

cav= (p1/m1 + p2/m2)/2

xbm=(xb1+xb2)/2
Na=((dab*cav)/(z*xbm)) *(xa1-xa2)

Manual calculation for the values

p1=972.8
p2=988.1
cav=(972.8/20.07 + 988.1/18.7)/ 2
= 50.5845

xbm=(0.9268 +0.9723)/2
=0.9496

Na=((0.740x10^-9 X 50.5845)/(0.002 X 0.9496))X(0.0732X0.0277)

= 8.9684x10^-7
