In the SIRB the ratings should be recorded as an endorsement or an SQ. The difference is the endorsement is made against a national CoC; the SQ is issued when there
is no national CoC for the rating.
At least one SSO and Medical Care Person are required on each vessel. The vessel’s Vessel Security Plan (VSP) will designate who must hold the SSO qualification. The
Medical Care person is usually the Master but should also be the designated medical officer on the ship.
SINCE OFFICERS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE TAKEN THE TRAINING MARKED WITH A RED ‘X’ TO RECEIVE
THEIR CoC, THEY DO NOT NEED TO HAVE THESE SQ STICKERS IN THEIR BOOKS. If an officer has SSO endorsed
on their CoC, they do not need to have the SSO SQ sticker in their Books because the MI endorsement of the CoC includes all
that is on the CoC.
