Production of biodiesel from algae

Abstract
As per large dependence on fossil fuels and environment concern algae evolve as a potential feedstock for
renewable energy generation. This study includes comparison between first, second and third generation
biofuel. Depending on species, microalgae produce many different kinds of lipids, hydrocarbons and other
complex oils due to this proper selection of algal strain, it's preculture and harvesting is important. This
study also highlights the extraction of lipids and biodiesel production via transesterification process using
homogeneous, heterogeneous catalyst (prepared from eggshell) and enzymes. Ohmic heating and
supercritical condition also discussed to reduce the processing cost of biodiesel.
