IMPROVISATION I

This course is an introduction to improvisational theatre. Students will explore


techniques used in the creation of spontaneous and unscripted, live performance.
This course will examine different uses of improvisation in theatre including
rehearsal techniques, comedy writing, and character development. The
communication skills learned will serve students well in all classes and careers, as
well as the performing arts.

 Demonstrate the basic acting techniques of pantomime,


improvisations, vocal production, and movement to create and sustain
believable characters.
 Demonstrate knowledge of the history of acting and improvisation.
 Demonstrate the ability to react spontaneously and truthfully to
scene partners.
 Demonstrate knowledge of improvisational skills and vocabulary.
 Demonstrate and utilize the elements of reading, writing, and
presenting critiques.

Improv is a shared activity which requires that participants foster the


group’s efforts both through encouragement and critique.

EVALUATION

A 100 point system is used in grading group projects, written and oral work.
Oral presentations will be graded on a group and an individual basis.
