TECHNICAL THEATRE III

Theatrical design and production, like the art they introduce, comes in a bewildering array
of shapes, sizes, textures, and colors. Stagecraft is the technical means of communicating
ideas and integrating various arts and media into theatrical productions.

The goal of Stagecraft III is to help students make decisions in creating a design of solving
a technical challenge in any area of the theatre. The basic element for creating a
successful design in theatre is an understanding of design principles and chosen medium.

OBJECTIVES

-Analyze the interactive effects of the color selections for scenery, costumes, and
lighting.
-Analyze the history of theatre architecture.
-Demonstrate proficiency in drafting, drawing, and rendering for the theatre.
-Demonstrate safety, organizational, and leadership skills.
-Understand elements of design.
-Understand the value of critique, review, and observation.
-Research and analyze a play for the demands of scene design.
-Demonstrate the ability to work with and direct the work of others.

Projects for this class require careful planning and organization. All stagecraft classes will
be involved in the major productions for the school and community. This may involve extra
after school time and is a major part of your grade.

 Pen and Pencil
 Each student will need a 3-ring binder for all notes, worksheets, handouts, and
tests. Notebooks will be checked.

A 100 point system is used in grading quizzes, homework, notebooks, tests, and some
projects. Major grades will consist of tests, designs, building and models. You are
responsible for putting away supplies, tools, etc. and cleaning after working on a project.
