San New High School Business Program: Academic Philosophy
San New High School Business Program: Academic Philosophy
San new students who participate in business program will take part in project-based education that
incorporates the learning of required skills into the process of solving real world business problems.
Students will complete a series of at least four rigorous business administration courses. In addition,
students will use technology in each course, hear from guest speakers who are subject matter experts and
learn about business and community diversity through an internship.
Business program at San New School is designed much like a college business administration program.
Students take approximately two courses each year, beginning with Business Foundation. The program
continues with courses in various business functions concluding with the capstone course, Business
Strategies that requires implementation of the principles addressed throughout the program.
Business and Entrepreneurship program for high school is designed to be phased in over a four-year
period. The following chart shows the program design by high school year.
Each of the five courses preceding the capstone course includes part of a program-long
project. For example, students nearing the end of the Economics course learn how to use a
decision matrix and business feasibility study to select a business idea from a list generated in
the previous course, Marketing/ Entrepreneurship.
In Business Strategies, senior-level student teams use the knowledge and skills gained in all of
the previous courses to implement their new business idea.
Each student has the opportunity to see business in action. Observing a senior-level business
executive not only puts coursework into action, it can create a visual career goal for students.
Academic Philosophy:
Encourages students to become involved with business problems and concepts, which promotes
enthusiasm and interest in the subject.
Provide students with a thorough understanding of business concepts and their theoretical
foundations
Provide a broadly based business curriculum that supports transferable skills and knowledge
between and among industries
