Montefiore has been working in good faith to reach an agreement with Aetna.

Our current contract with

Aetna commercial and Medicare health plans expires on midnight, September 7, 2018. Contract
negotiations have stalled as Aetna continues to demand we accept unreasonable cuts that do not
appropriately pay for the care we provide.

When insurers don’t negotiate fairly, patients suffer. They are forced to either find new providers, or
pay higher out-of-pocket costs. We are doing everything in our power to make sure our Aetna insured
patients maintain coverage to see the doctors they know and trust. We need Aetna to join us in that
commitment in order to reach a reasonable contract for both parties – and most importantly, our
patients.

Montefiore has built a non-profit healthcare system focused on transforming the way care is delivered
to all who need it. Our mission reflects that the best possible healthcare involves treating the entire
patient – from basic healthcare needs to the highest levels of specialty care. Our Albert Einstein College
of Medicine advances our work with internationally recognized research and clinical trials. Everything
we do is focused on providing the best quality care while reducing overall healthcare costs.

Aetna claims they recognize the value we bring to their members and the communities we serve. Yet,
the terms they propose do not adequately cover the services we provide and threaten our ability to
continue offering equal access to excellent care for all. This is not about dollars and cents; it’s about
ensuring we’re able to serve our communities in the way they deserve.

More than 1 million people throughout the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland and the Hudson Valley rely on
Montefiore Health System for the highest quality healthcare services and resources. Our patients
deserve the best healthcare without disruption. We need Aetna to recognize this and work with us
toward a solution.

All patients with Aetna insurance are guaranteed access to in-network care with Montefiore through
September 7, but unless Aetna returns to the table in good faith before then, Aetna will force Montefiore
Health System out of its network effective September 8, 2018.

For more information, patients can call our patient information line at (855) 226-3071.

The contract discussions involve the following Montefiore Health System member hospitals: Montefiore
Medical Center, Montefiore Mount Vernon, Montefiore New Rochelle, Montefiore Nyack, St. Luke’s
Cornwall and White Plains Hospital
