mp head calculation
Please note that the total pumping head (static head + nozzle pressure drop)
required for the cooling tower in Hamon selection received from Takyeef on
2016-11-28 (attached for reference) for the same project is 6.5 m.
Since the technical selection for Kelvion was not provided, we made an
assumption by modeling the cooling tower with a pressure drop of 8.5 m which
is conservative considering the cooling tower height and flow rate required.
Larger cooling towers in previous projects even had total pressure drops less
than 8.5 m.
Takyeef are applying the 10% safety margin to the overall pump head.
It should only be applied to the pipes, fittings, and accessory loss, but not to
equipment such as chillers and cooling towers.
p head calculation
We are considering 2 m for the pressure drop inside the TES tank.
We consider 1 m pressure drop on the lower diffuser connection and another 1 m on
the upper diffuser connection.

Suction diffuser selection was not provided by Takyeef. We assumed a conservative pressure drop of 1m based on
selection which shows the pressure drop 11500 GPM flow through a 24”x24” suction diffuser as 1.1 psi (approx.
The pressure drop calculated by Takyeef for the pipes, fittings and accessory losses seems exaggerated. We used a
software to model the condenser pump circuit where all the pipe diameters, lengths, and minor losses are matchin
drawings.
It should only be applied to the pipes, fittings, and accessory loss,
but not to equipment such as chillers and cooling towers.
