QN1 Calculate the loop inductance per km of a single-phase line comprising of two conductors spaced at 1m apart.
Given that the diameter of each conductor is 2.5cm. [Ans : 18.53x10-4 H/km]

QN2 A 3 phase transmission line has its conductors at the corners of an equilateral triangle with side 3 m. The
diameter of each conductor is 1.63 cm. Find the inductance per phase per km. [Ans: 1.2315 mH/km]

QN3 A 3 phase transmission line has a horizontal configuration with spacing of 6 m between adjacent conductors and
12 m between outer conductors. The radius of each conductor is 1.81cm. Find the inductance per phase per km.
[Ans: 1.2569 mH/km]

QN4 Fig.1 shows the arrangement of a single-phase line with composite conductor. Conductor-X consists of two sub-
conductors ‘a’ and ‘b’ and conductor-Y consists of two sub-conductors ‘c’ and ‘d’. Diameter of each conductor
is 2 cm. Assuming that the current is equally divided between sub-conductors, calculate the loop inductance per
km of the line. [ Ans: 1.24 mH/km]

QN5 A three-phase transmission line has asymmetrical spacing as shown in Fig.2. The diameter of each conductor is
1.8 cm. Calculate the inductance of the line per km per phase. Assume that the line is transposed and line
currents are balanced. [ Ans: 1.36 mH/km]

QN7 A three phase double circuit line has a vertical configuration with horizontal distance of 5 m and vertical distance
between adjacent phases of 3 m. the radius of each conductor is 1.1 cm. Find the inductance per phase per km of
the line. [Ans: 0.5895 mH/km]

QN8 Find the capacitance between conductors of a single phase 10 km long line. Diameter of each conductor is 1.213
cm and spacing between conductors is 1.25 m. Also find the capacitance of each phase to neutral.
[Ans: 0.052179 µF, 0.104358 µF]

QN9 A 3 phase 132 kV, 100 km, 50 Hz single circuit line has horizontal spacing with 5 m between adjacent
conductors. The conductor diameter is 1.2 cm. Find line capacitance per phase and charging current per phase.
[Ans: 0.7997 µF, 19.14 A ]

QN10 A 40 km long single-phase line has two conductors in parallel with 1.5m spacing. The diameter of each
conductor is 5mm and the conductors are at a height of 7m above the ground. Calculate the capacitance (line to
line – Cab) for the following two cases:
Case-I : Neglecting the effect of ground
Case-II: Considering the effect of ground. [ Ans: i) 0.1739 μF ii) 0.174 μF ]

QN11 Fig.4 shows the arrangement of a 3-phase transmission line. The line is transposed and the diameter of each
conductor is 2.6 cm. Calculate the capacitance of the line per phase for following two cases:
Case-I : Neglecting the effect of ground
Case-II: Considering the effect of ground. [ Ans: i) 0.008357 μF/km ii) 0.0084641 μF/km ]

QN12 A 3 phase double circuit line has the configuration as shown in the Fig.5. The radius of each conductor is 0.9
cm. find the inductance and capacitance per phase per km of the line length.

QN13 A 3 phase 132 kV, 50 Hz overhead line has ACSR conductors of equivalent copper area 1.5 cm2 and effective
diameter 39.8 mm, spaced equilaterally 8 m apart. (a) Find the line parameters (Resistance, Inductance and
Capacitance per phase per km), (b) Find the charging current and charging MVA. Resistivity of copper is
1.73x10-6 ohm-cm.
[Ans: r:0.115 Ω, L: 1.25 mH, C: 0.00926 µF, charging current: 0.2217 A/km/phase, charging MVA: 0.0507
MVAR/km]

QN14 Find the loop inductance per km of a single phase overhead transmission line when conductors have relative
permeability of (i) 1(ii) 100. Each conductor has a diameter of 1 cm and they are spaced 5 m apart.
