like me...when I've been asked to be an emcee for a public speaking competition ...I've

PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The competition is going to start any minute from now. All the contestants and the
guests are invited to come inside the hall and take your seats. Thank you.
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and a very good morning to all of
you.
On behalf of the organising committee, we are pleased to welcome all of you to our
school who is responsible for this year competition. This is the least we can do within
the short period of time. Please bear in mind; we hope that all the contestants can
compete in a healthy manner. Try your level of best to deliver your speech convincingly
and full of confident. Without wasting any of time, I would like to ask for permission to
start on the program.
For your information, there are ………19….. Schools altogether who participate in this
year public speaking competition. The schools are:

Let me read to you the competition rules:

The competition is divided into two sections, as follows:
Section 1 Prepared speech
Section 2 impromptu speech
For section 1 (Prepared speech) , contestants are to observe the following rules
• The contestants should deliver a prepared speech on a topic of their choice for 4 to 6
minutes.
• A warning bell will be sounded at the 5th minute and a final bell at the 6th minute.
Marks will be deducted thereafter.
For section 2 (impromptu speech), contestants are to observe the following rules:
• The Contestants are given a topic 4 minutes before they are due to present the speech.
• All contestants speak on the same topic.
• The time allocated for the impromptu speech is 3 minutes
• A warning bell will be sounded at the 2nd minute and a final bell at the 3rd minute.
Marks will be deducted thereafter.
The judging criteria for both speeches are on two aspects which are subject matter and
the use of the language. The important things are to make sure that you know your
direction and set a focus for your speech.
Now, we shall start the competition with the first round which is prepared speech.
*I would like to remind all the contestants to finish their speeches within the time given
which is 4 to 6 minutes. Under the competition rules, marks will be deducted after 6
minutes.

*Please teachers…Do not guide and help your students. You are distracting their focus
and attention. Thank you.
