Trumpet Call 2018 August 5 FINAL
Bethany’s Corner
Everyday our paths cross with people in need. People who, for whatever reason, may or
may not acknowledge it, freely talk about it, or perhaps even ask for prayer over it. Their
need may be physical or emotional, phycological or spiritual. But regardless of the type,
it’s there, and we all experience it.
Galatians 6:9-10 says: “So then, while we have opportunity, let us [Christ’s disciples] do
good to all people, especially to those who are of the household of the faith. And let us
not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.”
Here at ESUMC, our Vision is “To be a Christian community where Christ is transforming
lives.” But Christ has news for us, that sort of transformation doesn’t happen by its self. In
John 13, Jesus is clear that we must live our mission for our own transformation to be visible to the
world. Take a look at what he says about Christians who live out His love: “By this they will know that you
are My disciples, if you have love for one another." Taking it one step further, Paul also writes in Colossians
3:12: ”So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, loving
kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” So then, directly from scripture , we are challenged to put His
love into action: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, so
also you must love one another.” In other words, Christians are to be more than beneficiaries and supporters
of those who love and serve. We, ourselves, are called to be the loving servants of Christ in our Church, to
the community, and in the world.
Folks, if you take this commandment seriously, I’d like to challenge you make a greater effort to love and
serve along other Christians by joining our Congregational Care Team.
Meeting the second Thursday of every month for one hour, the Congregational Care Team coordinates the
caring efforts and ministries of our Church and includes many opportunities to live out our mission. Ministries
like Hospital Visitation, our Shut-in Visitation Outreach, our Transportation Team, the Church Prayer Chains,
Home Communion services, Casserole Ministries and our Holiday Meal Outreach are all in in desperate
need for revival or additional volunteers. And for these ministries to be sustained, we must experience
growth!
So, on behalf of the Congregational Care Team and those already serving in caring capacities, please
prayerfully consider coming and joining our team! Or simply reach out and inquire about the needs of our
various ministries. Our next meeting is scheduled for August 9th from 7-8pm, and either way, we are excited
to see how the Lord will guide to you to reach out and love others!
In Christian love,
