Mayoral candidate Eddie Lorton thinks the city of

Reno’s recent publicity campaign for the unveiling of
the refurbished Reno Arch too closely mimicked
Mayor Hillary Schieve’s past campaign rhetoric and
has asked the state ethics commission to investigate.
In a complaint filed with the Nevada Ethics Com-
mission, Lorton contends that the city-funded ad-
vertising campaign for the new Reno Arch celebra-
tion on June 25 was an improper use of tax dollars to
promote the mayor’s re-election bid.

It’s (still) hot and (still) smoky out there.

If that feels like it’s getting old, your perception is
correct. It’s a hot one this year.
In fact, Reno on Wednesday tied its record for the
most 100-degree days in a year — a record set just last
year at 16 total days, according to the National
Weather Service. Wednesday’s high was 101.
With another 100-plus degree day forecast today,
Reno could be on track for another record-setting
summer.
Higher-than-average temperatures are expected
to persist through the end of the week, but residents
of Northern Nevada could see a reprieve this week-

Trump to take active role

in upcoming campaigns
Facing the possibility the GOP could lose its advan-
tage in the House, President Donald Trump plans to
take an active role in campaigns this fall, focusing
on the closest congressional races ahead of Election
Day on Nov. 6. If Democrats win a majority of U.S.
House seats in November, Trump can say goodbye
to his hopes for a new tax cut and a border wall. 1B
