Mustang High School Choirs

2018-2019
Mrs. Stout – Mrs. Easley

Daily Grades:
Grades will be based on a point system. Grades are earned several ways:
❖ Classwork (participation, self-discipline, and punctuality)
❖ Assignments, quizzes and performances. Please note: a student is never required to sing alone in
front of others.
❖ Participating in rehearsal in a manner that is conducive to a positive learning environment.
❖ Absences from class will receive a failing grade with a makeup assignment available. It will be
the student’s responsibility to get the assignment and complete it.

It is not your right to interrupt someone else’s educational process!

Tardies will be strictly enforced according to school policies.

❖ Students are expected to be seated (or in their assigned place) with their folder and a pencil by the
time warm-ups begin.
❖ Restroom permission will NOT be given at the beginning of class. You will be issued only one
restroom pass at the beginning of each semester. Use it wisely!

Gum, food, soft drinks, energy drinks, flavored water, etc. are not allowed in the classroom. Daily
points will be deducted for these infractions. Plain water, however, is strongly encouraged.

CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED ON YOUR PERSON DURING

REHEARSALS UNLESS INSTRUCTED BY ONE OF THE DIRECTORS!

Performance Grades:
Performances and rehearsals are mandatory. Each performance will be worth 200 points and each
rehearsal will be worth 100 points. There will be at least two such opportunities per grading period.
Student grades will be figured according to the school grading policy.

Absences:
Any absence from a required or a chosen activity without prior approval will result in zero (0) points.
Absences may be excused under the following circumstances:
❖ Personal Illness (communication must be made by the parent/guardian only)
❖ Bereavement/Family Death
❖ School Activity Conflict (i.e. MHS school sponsored performances, games, competitions)

For Excused Performance Absences Only:

An alternative assignment will be given to students who have been excused from an event. The
assignment may include:
❖ listening to and/or viewing the audio/video of the missed performance and providing a written
critique of said performance.
❖ writing out the words to the songs from the performance.
Uniforms:
Women
❖ Choir Dresses will cost $70.00 new.

FUNDRAISING
Choral singing is an expensive pursuit. The fundraisers done by the Choral Department are to assist in
purchasing music (a class set of one song can run anywhere from $100-$125, which means one concert
can cost up to $1000), transportation to events, technology, substitutes, accompanists, supplies and other
items.

Fundraising is not a requirement, but clearly the program cannot be successful without it. Participation is
strongly encouraged for all choir members, and benefits all students.
