WELCOME
We have gathered here at GYC 2014 in Phoenix,
I can clearly remember back to when I was a mere 3
or 4-year-old in my father’s arms at the end of church,
listening while the closing hymn was sung. I knew the
story of the cross before I could remember. The prayer
in song was that I could be kept near it.
We’re all familiar with the story of the cross,
aren’t we? We’ve heard it so many times. Shamefully,
familiarity has at times made the story ordinary and we
find ourselves, not near, but absurdly far from the cross.
Haven’t we all been guilty of hearing the unbelievable
drama of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself coming down,
living the perfect life, then allowing Himself to be
killed by humans and rising again the third day, and yet
remaining strangely unmoved?
Ever since I was that 3 or 4 year old who knew the
story before I could remember, I’ve been on that life-
long journey of a deepening understanding of the
miracle of the cross - that split in the millennia when
God Himself purchased everything for us, at infinite
cost to Himself. And now every promise of God, every
blessing, every height of Christianity to which we could
never attain, and eternal life itself, is placed in our reach.
What are we going to do in response?

Arizona, to come again, together, to the foot of the cross.
It is my earnest prayer that we will see our crucified
Jesus and find in Him everything... Everything we need,
desire, and beyond. That our pride and self-sufficiency
will be swept away, that we will bow before Him in
repentance, that we will see the enormity of His grace.
And seeing it, be utterly moved to pour down at His feet
everything we have and are, and press on to a poured-
out life that He might be glorified. As the song says -
I take, O cross, thy shadow
For my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than
The sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by,
To know no gain nor loss,
My sinful self my only shame,
My glory all the cross.
Welcome to GYC. I’m so glad you’re here. May we
leave here with renewed sensitivity to His sacrifice, a
new vision for the glory of a life turned over into His
hands, and forever enamored with our God.

4 MISSION STATEMENT
THERE EXISTS, TODAY, an army of dedicated young people within the Seventh-day Adventist
church who yearn to demonstrate Nehemiah’s leadership, Daniel’s integrity, Mary’s humility, Paul’s passion for
evangelism, and Christ’s love for God and humanity. It is the goal of GYC and its members to seek and galvanize such
young people. We aim to mobilize existing youth and young adult ministries that are fully committed to the distinctive
message and mission of the Adventist church towards the proclamation of the Three Angels’ Messages.
GYC SEEKS TO equip and inspire young people to be Christian ambassadors to their respective places
of work and study by:
1) PROVIDING BIBLICAL TRAINING in the form of participatory workshops, Bible studies, and inspirational
messages at its annual conference.
2) FOSTERING AND ENCOURAGING CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP among young people from diverse socioeconomic
statuses, educational degrees, geographical locations, and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
3) CREATING NETWORK OPPORTUNITIES for Adventist young people and youth-oriented ministries.
4) ENCOURAGING YOUNG PEOPLE TO ASSUME LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES in the Seventh-day Adventist
Church by employing their experience and talents in planning and presenting the annual conference and other events.

IN SEEKING TO uphold the distinctive message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, GYC will
promote among its participants:
1) A RESPECT FOR SCRIPTURE as the foundation and test of all teachings and practices.
2) AN APPRECIATION FOR THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY as an authoritative source of instruction, comfort, and
warning.
3) A QUEST FOR BIBLICAL HOLINESS through a daily prayer and devotional experience with Jesus and a commitment
to following His Word.
4) A VIBRANT WORSHIP EXPERIENCE one that is characterized by principle, reverence, and decorum.
5) A PASSION FOR LOST SOULS animated by personal experience in the saving love of Jesus and a desire for His
imminent return.
6) A CULTIVATION OF GODLY RELATIONSHIPS preserving purity and encouraging accountability.
7) AN EXEMPLARY AND ABUNDANT LIFESTYLE in recreation, entertainment, dress, and healthful living.
8) AN ENTHUSIASM FOR SERVICE through care for the needy, service to the community, promotion of human
rights, and stewardship of the environment.
9) A COMMITMENT TO THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH as God’s remnant church by supporting and
upholding its principles, organization, and leadership.
10) AN ATTITUDE OF HUMILITY AND CORDIALITY as we seek to clarify, articulate, and defend the Biblical teachings
of the Seventh-day Adventist church.

INFORMATION
BEHAVIOR OF ALL attendees must be consistent
with the principles of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
and the Spirit of GYC.
REVERENCE SHOULD BE maintained in the
meetings. Accordingly, please be punctual and conduct
yourself appropriately at each meeting and seminar. In
addition, we urge attendees to replace applause with
vocal affirmations, such as “Amen”.
ATTIRE SHOULD REFLECT the professional
nature of the convention. Please respect the principles of
Christian modesty and simplicity.
NAME TAGS MUST BE worn at all times in
order to gain entrance to the seminars and general
meetings (with the exception of Sabbath programming,
which will be open to the public).
LOST & FOUND items may be dropped off and
retrieved at the information table.
A SACK MEAL WILL BE provided on Friday
for those who have purchased meals. They will be
available during Friday breakfast for attendees to take on
the outreach buses.

NAME BADGES ARE required for entrance into
every meal. Meals include vegan and lacto-ovo vegetarian
options. Menu items will be labeled accordingly. There
will be a separate buffet line for those who have requested
gluten free meals.
TRANSPORTATION IS the responsibility of the
attendee. GYC will not be providing shuttle services to/
from any airports or other public transit terminals.
MINORS MUST BE accompanied by a respon-
sible adult (21+) who assumes responsibility and
accountability for both the safety and behavior of the
minor. Fines will be incurred by attendees who damage
or vandalize the facilities.
COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE are
not the primary objectives of this conference, due
to its intense nature. However, should you have any
suggestions or special requests, please direct these to the
appropriate GYC officer.

Please join us in the prayer room as we unite together, seeking the peace and power God is waiting to provide. A
session of united prayer will begin at each of the times listed; each session will last for one hour. You will be provided
with training and resources to enable you to lead out in united prayer back in your homes, churches, and communities.

ADAM RAMDIN
Morning Devotionals
Adam Ramdin was born and raised in England in a Adventist home. He came to the United States to study at the
age of 19 and later worked for several years as an evangelist with Amazing Facts. In 2007, he accepted a call to return
to England where he has had the privilege of serving the church in a variety of capacities. He is presently the Youth
Director for the North England Conference and the director of PEACE Centre of Evangelism. He recently married his
beautiful wife, Aiko Ramdin and together they live near Nottingham in England. In their spare time they enjoy bike
riding, kayaking, snowboarding and visiting historical sites of importance to the Christian church.
AIMEE SMITH
Creation, Agriculture, and Evangelism
Aimee Smith grew up working on her family’s farm in Arizona. During college, she became very passionate about
how farming could be used to reach people who would otherwise be unreceptive to the gospel. This past fall, after two
years of helping the Good News Farm at Great Lakes Adventist Academy, she enrolled in Weimar Institute’s HEALTH
program to further her training in how to reach people through health. Today She is excited to be helping Sunizona
Family Farms develop more effective ways of reaching people through farming and health.
A. LEROY MOORE
How We Can Be Sure Christ Will Soon Come
Leroy Moore has dedicated 60 years of his life to ministry in the USA, Africa, and Canada as: pastor, teacher, lecturer,
& author of 6 books. These include: Questions on Doctrine Revisited; Adventist Cultures in Conflict, and The Power of
Humility. Each relates to our history and present conflicts, all of which help answer the question, “Why is Christ’s
coming so long delayed?” He retired from denominational ministry in 1995, when he co-founded a lay ministry training
program which he administered from 1995-2003. Dr. Moore has been a religion teacher at Weimar College since 2007.

ANTIONETTE DUCK
Abortion and the Redemptive Grace Revolution
Antionette Duck is the founder of Mafgia and a living testament to the redemptive grace of the Lord. She has come
to understand that her faults and failures are not the end of the story—that the story of the cross is the story of
redemption. As one rescued from abortion, Ms. Duck is now an attorney and speaker dedicated to rescuing others.
She invites you to walk in the redemptive grace that is yours.
CARISSA MCSHERRY
A Call to Arms: How to Fully Engage in God’s Church
Carissa McSherry serves as the outreach administrator for the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism (AFCOE), a
capacity which allows her to extensively conduct evangelism-training seminars across the United States and abroad.
Carissa has also served as a Bible worker, youth leader, and speaker for many evangelistic seminars. As a former social
worker with experience in family and troubled-teen counseling, she has developed keen insight into reaching and
healing the human heart. Carissa is especially passionate about sharing the gospel in every aspect of life and helping
others experience the joy of soul winning. If she ever has spare time, she enjoys adventuring in the great outdoors,
traveling the world and experiencing its diverse cultures, and spending time with her family.
CHRISTIAN BERDAHL
Afternoon Plenary
International singer and speaker Christian Berdahl is renowned for his rich, powerful voice and stirring, Biblical
messages. For more than a decade, Christian has been a blessing to audiences the world over with beautiful, God-
honoring music that lifts hearts and minds, bringing them to the foot of the cross. Rescued from a life of abuse and
hardship, Christian was miraculously lifted “out of the pit” by a merciful Savior and led into a ministry of praise.
Christian is the founder of Shepherd’s Call, a ministry dedicated to sharing the gospel through sacred music, Bible-
based messages and Christian media production. His moving testimony will strengthen your walk with God and
inspire you to a deeper faith. Christian resides in Edgewood, New Mexico, USA, with his wife Coby and their two
sons, Tyler and Micah.

CLINTON WAHLEN
The Cross in Hebrews
Clinton Wahlen is an associate director of the Biblical Research Institute (BRI) at the General Conference of Seventh-
day Adventists. Before coming to the BRI in 2008, he taught New Testament and Greek for eleven years at seminaries
in Russia and in the Philippines. He also pastored for seven years in Northern California, where he was converted
from atheism, earned his first degree in theology, and was ordained to the ministry. Dr. Wahlen received his Ph.D.
from Cambridge University and is the author of the recent Adult Bible Study Guide on James and of forthcoming
commentaries on Matthew and Luke. Originally from Portland, Oregon, he enjoys hiking, skiing, and talking with
young people. His wife Gina works for Adventist Mission. Their daughter Heather is a junior at Fountainview Academy
in British Columbia and their son Daniel and his wife Samantha live in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
DANIELLE HARRISON
Holy Sexuality
Having come out of a very dark past, Danielle Harrison knows first hand the truth about what the world really has to
offer. She knows all too well that the empty promises which are told from the “center stage” of worldliness only yield
a terribly bitter crop. Broken at a young age, overshadowed by depression and anxiety, she went stumbling into a life

Afternoon Plenary
David Caukill hails from Australia and Asia. He is a keen human rights activist passionate about freedom for child
slaves--especially those who are sexually exploited. He has worked in the non-profit sector for 15 years; mostly with
ICC Australia, where he and his wife, Esther, cherish the opportunity to fight poverty face-to-face each day. In his
free time, he likes to work in his gardens and orchard in the mountains of Victoria, Australia. He and his wife have
four amazing grown children that are a constant blessing in their lives and one gorgeous grandson. Although work
itineraries keep them away from home for eight months a year, he and his wife make time each day for worship and
running. They thank God each day for the ability to work in His service.

Intersections: Adventist Doctrines at the Cross
Ingo Sorke was born in Marburg, Germany, and grew up in Bavaria and Stuttgart. Coming to the United States in 1985
as an exchange student, Ingo first encountered Seventh-day Adventists in Keene, Texas. Although he had written a
friend in Germany that “I don’t think I will ever become a Seventh-day Adventist,” after a traumatic death in his host
family, the attraction of a loving community, and much Bible study, Ingo was baptized before he returned to Germany
in 1986. He has studied theology in Germany and in the U.S. and has pastored several churches in Texas. He currently
teaches Bible courses at Southwestern Adventist University, inspiring students to integrate the particular Adventist
message into their personal and professional life. His daily teaching motto: To Educate is to Redeem.

Michael Carducci, Director of EXCEED Ministry and Co-Founder of Coming Out Ministries, speaks internationally

Michael Tuazon received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of California,

President of the prestigious INROADS Internship program. He was living a life of rebellion and selfish ambition while
climbing the corporate ladder when the Lord gave him a near-Damascus experience. Through a series of supernatural

Over twenty years ago the Lord rescued Ron from a life of self-destruction and total degradation as a homosexual.

his sexual identity questions, walk away from his gay life and entered into his new life in Christ. He is a minister
of the gospel and pastor of a local church district, a radio evangelist, author, recording artist, international concert

and in his current role as Dean of Administration at Weimar Institute in northern California, USA. Skip is still happily
