Instructions

 Hey Indians!! A warm welcome to the Amazing Indian Race!


 ‘Capitalize for a Start’ is the first exercise that needs to be completed in order to
proceed to Checkpoint 1 of the Amazing Indian Race.
 There are 3 questions in this round. You need to answer at least 2 out of these 3
correctly. These are option based questions. Simply tick the correct answer.
 Once you have answered these questions, you will realize that they are linked to a
particular city in India which is the capital of a particular Indian State or Union territory.
 After answering at least 2 out of 3 questions correctly, identify which capital city these
answers and questions are related to. The city which you identify hence through the
answers to these questions is Checkpoint 1 for you.
 The questions can be about places, issues, people or physical features of these different
capital cities. Use these hints to identify the city which is Checkpoint 1 for your team.
 Once you have identified the answer to the city, go to the Indiation trainer in your class
who will verify if that is the correct answer or not. If it is the incorrect answer, you may
ask for a Hint Ball or go back and think of the right answer. Please note that you only
have 3 Hint Balls for the entire duration of the Amazing India Race. So use wisely.
 The answer for the city which is associated with the different questions in this round
will not be accepted unless you have answered 2 out of 3 questions correctly.
 In case you want some help with getting answers to some questions, use a Hint Ball
once again. In order to use a Hint Ball, you need to approach the Indiation trainer,
asking him/her to give you a hint. That can be used by you to solve the question.
 In case you are unable answer 2 out of 3 questions correctlyand approach the trainer,
then Hint Balls corresponding to the number of questions that you need to answer
correctly in order to cross the round shall automatically get used up. The trainer will give
you the correct answer in such a case.
 In case you have used all Hint Balls, you will start getting 3 minute penalties.
 Ask the Indiation trainer in your class in case you still have any doubts related to this
round.

Question 1
The monument being talked about was built in the 20th century overlooking the Arabian Sea in
the city. The structure was erected to commemorate the arrival of Queen Mary and King
George V in India in 1911. It later served as a ceremonial entrance for Viceroys and Governors
to India. This monument was the symbol of “power and majesty” of the British Empire. In 2011,
the Taj Mahal Palace hotel which is right in front of this monument suffered terrorist attacks
from the terror outfit Lashkar E Taiba. Can you name this monument?

Question 2
The city is home to one of the world’s well renowned tombs or dargahs. The dargah in question
is a Indo Islamic Architectural marvel and contains the tomb of Sayed Peer Haji Ali Shah
Bukhari. The place is located in the heart of the city and is a tourist attraction for people visiting
the city from all across the globe. Sometimes, Sufi musicians perform devotional music or
Qawwali at this religious place. Can you name this place?

Question 3
This is a UNESCO World heritage site located in one of the islands of the city. The monument in
question is a network of sculpted caves located in Gharapuri in the city’s harbour. The rock
architecture of the site has been dated to between 5th and 8th century. The site was Hindu place
of worship before the Portuguese rule in 1534, during which it suffered irreparable damage.
This site is also under environmental threats. Can you name this site?
