Materials:
Yarn: Cream (), Light Pink or Light Purple (), Pink or Purple (), Dark Pink or Dark Purple, Yellow (), Teal ().
4 Ply Yarn or thicker 3 Ply will work fine.
Hook: 5 mm
Flowers:
How to do the Petals:
As you start the 2nd rounds of the flowers make sure to look at the map to see where to join petals
together. Simply do the petal chain, remove your hook from the loop, using your fingers slip the chain
through the other flower chain loop, reattach the loop onto your hook, pull through, slip stitch into the
next stitch, and repeat all the way around. Not every petal will be connected if they are on the outside
so make sure to look at the symbol map while crocheting.
Large Flower: 72” Cream and about 198” color per flower
Colors: Round 1 is cream. Round 2 is the color specified on the symbol map depending on where it is.

First make the 5 by 3 flower mat, then you will start working in the round.
I recommend starting with connecting the row of 3 large flowers, next adding the 4 little flowers one by
one, then the 5 large flowers and so on.
This will be worked in the round turning the flat piece into a sphere so keep the stitches consistent.

Backpack Straps:
1. Start with about a 12” long tail of string before your knot. Chain 50
2. Chain 2. Turn work. Dc in the 3rd chain from the hook. Dc in each chain across.
3. Turn work. Chain 2. Dc in each stitch all the way across. Leave a 12” tail.
1. Start with about a 12” long tail connected to the knot. Chain 30
2. Chain 2. Turn work. Dc in the 3rd chain from the hook. Dc in each chain across.
3. Turn work. Chain 2. Dc in each stitch all the way across. Leave a 12” tail.
Once you have all the straps formed, sew the top straps on the last 3 rounds before starting the flaps.
Sew the bottom short straps into the cream center of the bottom flower. Sew securely with both ends,
tie a knot after and cut ends on the inside of the backpack.
Fastener:
Sew a Large oval Bead into the 2 middle stitches of round 7 (top pink or light purple round) of the
Backpack.
Lining:
Lay the backpack flat with the flap open over 2 layers of fabric. Leave about ½ inches extra fabric around
the backpack and 1 ½ inches around the flower horizontal side section to make up for the overlap of the
flowers when it’s laid flat. Cut the two pieces out at the same time. The top fabric should go only ½ inch
higher than the opening of the backpack and the bottom fabric should go ½ inch higher than the
extended flap height. Starting at the opening of the backpack sew all the way around to the other side of
the opening of the backpack. Turn the fabric inside out and hand stitch with a coordinating color around
the opening and flaps folding in the raw edge so you cannot see it.
