during childhood. Chickenpox is a common and extremely infectious childhood

THE MUMPS

Mumps is a disease caused by a virus that can infect many parts of

the body, especially the parotid salivary glands. In mumps, the parotid
glands become increasingly swollen and painful over a period of one
to three days. As the glands swell, there is often a fever with
headache and loss of appetite.

“Typical Food and Beverages”

Costa Rica has many typical foods and beverages which are related to the regions
where people live and also to the celebrations.

Some kinds of food are the famous Gallo Pinto that consists of rice and beans mixed.
There are different “ Picadillos” such as arracache, chayote, potatoes, carrots and green
beans, and others.

The tortillas made of corn are very important to be eaten with plantain leaves and
eaten for Christmas, the family gets together to prepare them. There are soups like
albondigas, mondongo, chichen and vegetables, but the main soup is the “ Olla de
Carne” which is cooked with big pieces of meat and vegetables. Also, we have the rice
with chicken, empanadas, chorreadas, meat stew, cajetas, and others.

In beverages, there are many kinds of “Frescos” made of fruits like pineapple,
mango, papaya, orange, and others. In hot drinks, there are coffee, tea, agua dulce,
chocolate and others.

Costa Rica has a variety of typical food and beverages which are very important to
maintain us healthy and in a good shape.
