Paragraph for question nos. 11 – 12

A capacitor with square plates of side l has a charge Q. A proton enters the uniform
electric field of the capacitor after being accelerated from rest through a potential
difference V. The proton (charge +e, mass m) enters the capacitor parallel to the plates
and is deflected by a distance d/2 (where d is the gap between the plates).
Now the switch S1 is closed for some time t0 ad reopened when the heat generated in
the 2R resistor is one third of the initial stored energy of capacitor. Switch S2 is now
closed for a long time but the capacitor finally attains only 81% of its initial energy.
S2 is now opened and gap between the plates is changed so that the stored energy in
capacitor becomes equal to the initial stored energy. Neglect the effect of gravity.
