Sulpha drugs : A group of drugs which are derivatives of sulphanilamide are known as sulpha drugs.
A large range of sulphonamide analogues was synthsized in the laboratory. Sulphadiazine, sulpha guamidine,
sulpha pyridine, sulphathiozole etc. are some important sulpha drugs.

Antiseptic and Disinfectants :

Antiseptics : are also chemicals either kill & prevent the growth of micro organisms.
Antiseptics are applied to the living tissues such as wounds, cuts ulcers and diseased skin surface.
Eg. Furacin, Soframycin etc.
Commonly used antiseptic is detol, It is a mixture of chloroxylenol and terpinol. Bithional is added to soaps to
impart antiseptic properties.

Iodine, its 2-3% solution in alcohol, water mixture known as tincture iodine. It is applied on wounds as antiseptic.
Iodoform is also used as antiseptic for wounds. Boric acid in dilute aqueous solution is weak antiseptic for eyes.
Disinfactants : are the substance which applied to inanimate objects such as floors driange system instruments
etc.
One substance can act as an antiseptic and also act as disinfactants :
Ex. (a) 0.2% solution of phenol is an antiseptic 1% solution disinfectant.
(b) chlorine in 0.2-0.4 ppm is used as disinfectant for drinking water.

Memorize this theory as soon as you get the DPP. Revise it regularly and master this concept by practice.
11. The antiseptic added in soaps : 13. Detol is a mixture of :
(A) Furacin (B) Soframycin (A) Furacin & Soframycin
(C*) Bithional (D) Iodoform (B*) Chloroxylenol & Terpinol
(C) Iodine & Water
12. The antiseptic used for eyes : (D) Iodine & Chlorine
(A*) Boric acid (B) Iodoform
(C) Iodine (D) Phenol 14. The most effective antiboitic sulpha drug is :
(A) Saluarsam (B) Protosil
(C*) Sulphapysidine (D) Sulphamilamide
