Population: Approx. 13000.

Nearest Railway stations: Jagudan (6 Kms), Mehsana (10 Kms)


Introduction:

“Kherva” the name is enough. Kherva is one of the biggest villages of


Mehsana District and 3rd in Mehsana taluka after Ambaliyasan and Langanaj. It
is located on the State highway 217 which led to Gandhinagar from Mehsana.
It is 7 km away from National Highway passing through Jagudan. It is located
8 km away from Mehsana town and 10 km from Mehsana Railway station.

Kherva holds most of the facilities which are available in town. The boundary
of Kherva tangent to 10 villages and they are like such: Devarasan, Kadavasan,
Mulsan, Punasan, Jagudan, Hebuva, Sanganpur, Gunjala, Udalpur and
Dharusan.
Kherva is main centre for surrounding area. The major villages nearer to
Kherva interconnect with Kherva after Mehsana in provisionary matter.
Kherva is main target for selling their products by Vendors and small
merchants.

Now a day, due to increment in population and development in area, Kherva is


going to become Municipality. Establishment of Ganapat University gives vast
way to spread the fame of Kherva. Ganpat University is located in Kherva 2
km away from Village near the 66 K.V. Sub station of GEB, Kherva. Ganpat
University is one of the biggest universities in Gujarat which include most of
the curriculums.

Ganapat University expanse the reputation of Kherva and give the employment
to people of Kherva along with the Study. Before establishment of Ganapat
University, the Place was become hot for GIDC. Most of the students learn in
Ganapat University stay in Kherva as PG. Kherva has another famous
Secondary and Higher Secondary school ‘Shree Jaykorbai Vidyamandir’.
Students from all villages nearer to Kherva come here to study. The education
provided by Shree Jaykorbai Vidyamandir is very excellent. Approximately
500 students are studying in ‘Shree Jaykorbai Vidyamandir’.

Kherva has 1 Primary Boy School, 1 Primary Girl School and 1 Kindergarten.
In Kherva, 2 well-known banks: Bank of Baroda and State Bank of India
(Ganapat University) and 3 cooperative banks: Mehsana district bank, Umiya
Cooperative society and Kherva credit Society are working in field of banking
and finance.
Kherva has avail with 1 Government Dispensary together with Primary Health
Centre and Government Pregnancy centre. Kherva Gram Panchayat
concentrates to development of Village. Most of the houses are now a day
holds the drainage facilities and use the purified water in drinking. Gram
Panchayat works on sanitary movement so that village could be cleaned.

Kherva has three beautiful ponds. The oldest pond in Village is at Northern
side. Another big Pond is near to Ganapat University. Third pond was made
under the program of ‘Sujalam Suflam’ on way of Udalpur. The Sujalam
Suflam canal (3 kms away) passes through Kherva.

Of four side of village, there are four famous temples are located. In east side
of village, famous Jahore Mata’s temple is very popular. It is cool place and
surrounding with greenery. In West side of village, Famous Meladi Mata’s
temple set up there. In Northern side, Satifoi’s Temple and Dargah are located.
Southern side of Kherva has Very Famous Temple of “Sadhi Mataji”.
Every day and especially on Sunday and Tuesday, rush of devotee are very
much. This temple is nearer to Ganpat University.

Other temple in Kherva are like Shree Siddhanath Mahadev, Shree Hanuman
Mandir, Shree Shitala ma, Shree Ramji Mandir , Shree Bahuchar Mata’s
temple, Chamunda Mata’s Temple, Shree Jogani Mata’s temple and Ambaji
Mata’s Temple nearer to Siddhanath Mahadev also very famous.

Kherva celebrate various festivals and fairs. Two main fairs in Kherva are
‘Janmashtami fair’ and “Dharo Aatham fair of Sadhi Mataji”. Ravan Dahan is
held at Sidhhanath mahadev on Vijya Dashami. Tajiya Julush and other
Muslim Festivals are also held by Muslim Brothers with the spirit of
brotherhood.

Kherva is also famous in various matters. Kherva is famous for Tavi (pan to
make loaf) and its evergreen product “Kherva’s Lemon and Lime”. Most of
the Lemon are export to other part of state and as well as country.
There are two famous proverbs for Kherva. First one is “Badhe Gaya hasho,
pan Kherva Nahi” (you go everywhere but not at Kherva) and Second one is
“Kherva ni Kher ane bahar ni Laher” (outsiders get more prosper rather
than villager if they come to sell there product in Kherva).

There is a one fable behind this proverb. Hundred years ago, on the road of
Kherva Devarasan, a poor girl of Kherva named SATIFOI was shivering due
to cold of winter, she was naked and she had no cloth to wear, when People
were passing from there, she asked for something to wear, but none heard her
request. Everybody laughed at her. A man from Devarasan was coming to
Kherva, she requested for cloth, a man give his Shawl to her. She wore the
Shawl and give him bless to become prosper if he would come to trade in
Kherva. She cursed to villagers that the Outsider would earn more than them.

Kherva is also place at where Shree Pandurang Shastriji visited in past. He


gave sermon here under the Banyan tree of Shree Jaykorbai Vidyamandir.
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpai also visited Kherva in the past.

Kherva has ‘Gujarat Underground Water Testing Laboratory’ near GEB and
Ganapat University.

I love Kherva and want to stay always there.
