Simple Interest
1. Leon deposits ₱ 54,000 and got back an amount of ₱ 60,000 after a year. Find the simple
interest he got.
Solution:
Principal (P) = ₱ 54,000
Amount (A) = ₱ 60,000

Simple Interest (SI) = Amount (A) – Principal (P)

= 60,000 – 54,000
= 6,000
Therefore, Richard got an interest of ₱ 6,000.

2. Dora deposited ₱ 100,000 for 4 year at a rate of 6% per annum (p.a). Find the interest and
amount Diego got.
Solution:
Principal (P) = ₱ 100,000
Time (T) = 4 years
Rate (R) = 6% p.a.

Simple Interest (SI) = {Principal (P) × Rate (R) × Time (T)}/100

= (100,000 x 6 x 4)/100
= ₱ 24,000

Amount (A) = Principal (P) + Interest (I)

= 100,000 + 24,000
= ₱ 124,000
The interest Diego got = ₱ 24,000.
Therefore, the amount Diego got ₱ 124,000.
3. If you charge ₱ 70,000 on a credit card and you bank charges you 15.9%, how much would
you owe after a year?

Solution:
Principal (P) = ₱ 70,000
Time (T) = 1 year
Rate (R) = 15.9%

Simple Interest (SI) = {Principal (P) × Rate (R) × Time (T)}/100

= (70,000 x 15.9 x 1)/100
= ₱ 1,130

Amount (A) = Principal (P) + Interest (I)

= 70,000 + 1,130
= ₱ 81,130
You would owe ₱ 81,130 after one year.

4. Lea deposits ₱ 40,000 at a bank at an interest rate of 4.5% per year. How much interest will
she earn at the end of 3 years?

Solution:
Principal (P) = ₱ 40,000
Time (T) = 3 years
Rate (R) = 4.5%

Simple Interest (SI) = {Principal (P) × Rate (R) × Time (T)}/100

= (40,000 x 4.5 x 3)/100
= ₱ 5,400
She earns ₱ 5,400 at the end of 3 years.

5. Wakanda borrowed ₱ 30,000 from a bank at an interest rate of 12% per year for a 2-year
period. How much interest does she have to pay the bank at the end of 2 years?

Solution:
Principal (P) = ₱ 30,000
Time (T) = 2 years
Rate (R) = 12%

Simple Interest (SI) = {Principal (P) × Rate (R) × Time (T)}/100

= (30,000 x 12 x 2)/100
= ₱ 7,200
She has to pay the bank ₱ 7,200 at the end of 2 years.
