LAB REPORT

SINGLE PHASE INVERTER & RECTIFIER

NAME :W.P.A.SAVINDA
STD. ID.NO : 156215
FIELD : ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING ( Grad.Dip.)
AIM:
To study the performance of
(i) Current source type single phase inverter
(ii) Current tapped fully controlled single phase rectifier

APPARATUS:
 Thyristor Trainer SCR-15
 Oscilloscope
 DC Ammeter (5A)
 DC Voltmeter (30V)
 AC Voltmeter (300V)
 AC Ammeter (3A)
 Battery (24V, 5A)

PROCEDURE:
(a) Operation of Inverter

Connect the circuit as shown in figure 01 Then,

i. Measure Vin, Iin, Vout and Iout
ii. Verify, by observing Vout waveform, that the output frequency can be varied by adjusting the
setting of RV1 potentiometer in the UJT circuit.
iii. Observe and sketch waveforms of Vout, anode to cathode voltage of thyristors, gate voltage
of thyristors, voltage of inductor (JJ6-J7) voltage of UJT capacitor (J19-J20) and voltage of
bistable output (J16-J20).

(b) Operation of Centre Tapped Rectifier.

Connect the circuit as shown in fig 2. (See table 2)

i. Measure input and output current for different setting of UJT circuit potentiometer RV2
(caution: do not exceed 5A)
ii. Observe and sketch waveforms of thyristor voltage, gate voltage, rectifier-output voltage (J7-
J4), inductor voltage and battery current.

DISCUSSION:
i. Comment on the waveforms observed in (a) and (b).
