PROJECT LIST 2018-19 Ceramics 1 Name_____________________

IMPORTANT:
STUDENT NAME & PERIOD OF EVERY PROJECT - They must be Initial Here_____________
carved into the bottom of each pottery piece before it is turned in on the
Green-ware shelf to dry. NO EXCEPTIONS – will not receive credit for project without name.

PROJECT DESIGN & DIRECTIONS SHEET:

with an instructor signature prior to beginning project.

POTTERY LOG:
All projects are required to be turned in with your pottery log Keep Initial Here_____________
your Pottery Log in the Pottery Room in your Art Locker
AT ALL TIMES – Do not take home.

3 weeks to work on the wheel to complete the projects listed below.
If you are absent you miss your day(s) on the wheel. You have the option to make it up on
Mondays in after school Studio Time EVERY Monday 3-5 pm.!

FINAL WRITTEN MIDTERM and END OF COURSE EXAM

Hand Build Projects:


1. ONE 4” Tile – Students will be introduced to additive and subtractive techniques. GRADE_____
2. Ceramic Journal – Slab method 4.5” x 6.5” GRADE_____

3. Exposed coil project – Vessel using the coil method - see power point. GRADE_____

4. Pinch Project - Vessel GRADE_____


Gargoyle Project – Two underglazed sculptures. Additive/Subtractive and hand GRADE_____
modeling techniques

5. Pueblo Pot Project - (8-10” Height & Minimum 4” in Width) - Will be using the GRADE_____
medium coil method - smoothing inside and outside as you build. 50% of this project
is painting neat beautiful pueblo designs on the outside with under glazes on leather
hard clay - before bisque firing.

Wheel Thrown Project:


1. THREE wheel thrown cylinders – 1.5 lbs of clay each – 3 to 4” tall. P/F_______

2. 3 Bowls with a flat trim – Center 1.5 lbs of clay – see demo on how to make a bowl P/F_______
and trim it on wheel.
Turn in your best bowl(s) for a grade. Must be trimmed on the wheel. GRADE_____

Final Class presentation – Choose best piece – must be glazed to share with class.
