Reflection
As I look back this second semester, there are many learnings that Assessment 2 offered
for us to apply as we become teachers in the near future. Assessment is a necessity for every
teachers in the world. It helps in bringing teachers and students closer and understand more the
capabilities and learnings that each students possesses. In addition to that, the making of this
portfolio helped us to reflect more on what we have learned during the whole second semester.
One of the things to be considered is that there should be an alignment between the
objective and assessment. With this, teachers can easily screen what the learners have learned,
have difficulty with, and what they have not learned yet. Furthermore, the use of Table of
Specification (TOS) is a wonderful tool in order to easily create a test paper which covers what
the students have tackled.
During the judging of booth at the NVSU Charter Anniversary, there is a need to have
rubrics. These rubrics helped in guiding judges on what they will judge and sees what aspect of it
is important. There should be also unbiased and honest judging because like an evaluator of
curriculum, judges should be reminded to judge on the quality. Rubrics have also two types
depending on what to use; the holistic and analytic. These have different purpose like if judging
needs a quick one, holistic will be used but if needs a thorough judging, analytic will be used.
Learning should not be focused only on cognitive nor psychomotor but affective should
also be a priority. Student’s attitudes or behavior is needed to be given attention too. In order to
assess the student’s affective domain, there are tools like checklist, semantic differences, and
Thurstone Scale. These will help teachers assess each students and focus on giving also activities
that will develop their affective side.
In an overall view, teachers need to have the ability of being able to assess the students
learning in all aspects. As a future teacher, this will have a great impact especially if it is also being
given solutions with. Furthermore, it will guide us to improve our teaching abilities until we master
our own strategies.
By making this portfolio, it made me appreciate the things that teachers need to sacrifice
with in order for every learners to be imparted with knowledge. There should be a need to further
improve ourselves, assess our strengths and weaknesses and also have great solutions to problems
that will arise in the near future of our education.
