Rationale

In our daily life , we are encountering different kinds of accidents and calamities. May it be
simultaneous or not, having the knowledge about first aid is important and will help you save
yourself and the others in times of difficulties. So you must be prepared every time and a
knowledge is required to save life.

First aid refers to the basic life support or temporary treatment to a person who is injured or
sick, it is a powerful, useful and helpful way in saving one’s life. It is usually performed by a
person to a sick and injured casually until definitive medical treatment can be assess, it can
prevent the condition from worsening or injuring a lot more and also promotes recovery. First
aid can be done by anyone who has knowledge about it and it is called first aider , it refers to
the person who undergo trainings and the people who expertise in doing it like doctors and
nurses. And as a first aider, you must have the package of things useful to give first aid and
that is called first aid kit. First aiders uses different kinds of materials, it consist of different
medical items which cures sickness and injuries but even without this, life can be saved just
purely knowledge and resourcefulness but you need to treat the patient properly and gently
because first aider must be gentle you shouldn’t cause pain, you need to be resourceful
because you should make the best use of things at hand, you must be observant you should
notice all signs, you should be tactful you must not alarm the victim, you should be emphatic
and lastly respectable, you must maintain a professional and caring attitude. First aiders must
take care of their self too because some disease might be transmitted whether it is direct
contact, indirect contact, airborne or vector.

As a first aider you must be calm and observe the setting before taking action, the main
purpose of a first aider is to treat an injured person when there is no professional doctor in the
setting because first aid maybe the only help possible until the person be treated by
professional or taken to the hospitals. The main goal of first aid is to preserve life and that is
why first aid serves as life saving tool.

History

such as the Knights Hospitaller in the 11th century CE, providing care to pilgrims and knights
in the Holy Land.
Meanwhile Sinatra (2017) stated that safety of a person is a matter of concern to all sundry in
every part of the world in fact all organization and illustration of learning have safety measure
put in place. All institution of learning is viewed as heaven of piece worldwide. Hot with
standing this over the world, there has been an upward trend in the number of school children
dying into violence, disaster and emergencies that would be avoid if safety policies where
strictly obeyed.

Statement of the Problem

This study is conducted to measure the knowledge to the skills and performance of Grade 12
Students in ISSHS.

Hypothesis

A. There is no significant difference between the trained and not trained Grade 12.
This is to determine how many students are trained, how many student are having
enough knowledge and to asses the effectiveness of the trained first aiders and to
measure their knowledge and preparedness as a trained first aider.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study is created for a wider analysis of SHS students of ISSHS specially to the
Grade 12 students to evaluate their understanding about first aid and see their
effectiveness as a trained first aider, for the teachers to measure their effectiveness as the
one responsible for teaching first aid, to the staffs, administrators and the principal to find
out the efficiency of the trained students and to asses what was done well , what is to be
done and what is to improve and lastly to the parents of the trained Grade 12 first aiders
who are investing their time and efforts and to show them the fruit of their hardwork.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This research study entittled Level of knowledge to the skills and performance of Grade
12 SHS students for the year 2018 2019 at ISSHS is to asses the capacity of the Grade
12 who are trained as a fist aiders and also to asses their preparedness in times of
catastrophe. The main purpose of this study is to measure the knowledge and skills of the
Grade 12 as a trained first aiders.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
First Aid – refers to the temporary care given to injured person until medical care takes
place.
First Aiders – refers to the person who is trained and are giving primary basic life support
First Aid Kit – refers to the tools and materials use by the first aiders.
