Prochaska Diclemente model of Behavior change

The Prochaska Diclemente model shows the 6 different stages of behavior

change

 Precontemplation (Not yet acknowledging that there is a problem

behavior that needs to be changed)
 Contemplation (Acknowledging that there is a problem but not yet ready
or sure of wanting to make a change)
 Preparation/Determination (Getting ready to change)
 Action/Willpower (Changing behavior)
 Maintenance (Maintaining the behavior change) and
 Relapse (Returning to older behaviors and abandoning the new changes)

The Behavior that I would like to change is my chronic procrastination. I tend

to leave all my assignments and important tasks for the last minute and miss
deadlines very often.

I would like to get rid of this behavior because it has been quite detrimental not
only for my mental health but my academic performance has also been affected
severely. My grades dropped drastically and the stress of completing
assignments at the last minute meant my mental health suffered immensely.

I worked hard and stayed in the maintenance stage for long until my high
school graduation after which I took a long vacation which meant I wasn’t
actively trying to combat this behavior hence ended up in the relapse stage.
Now in university I am trying again and I am on the 4th stage (ACTION).I am
adopting new productive habits and strategies like using a planner to be
constantly aware of deadlines and work everyday. I hope I will be successful in
combating this behavior and improve my life for good
