Objectives: Students will be able to use vocabulary words in every day language. Students will broaden
their vocabulary.

Differentiation Strategies (How will the lesson address the various learning styles of the students and the
needs of those with special needs?): We will be using all of the learning styles in the lesson: auditory,
visual, kinesthetic, etc. The vocabulary words are in every student’s book so they will have a copy of the
word and definitions. The books provide room for notes so students can create their own notes if they want.
Students will be assess for participation as well as written work so that all students will be able to show
their understanding.

ENGAGEMENT:

As a class, students will read the excerpt in their vocabulary book that comes before the unit. This excerpt
has the new vocabulary words. The students will use context clues in order to guess the definition. Class
discussion.

Assessment :Teacher evaluation.


EXPLORATION:

Teacher will go through each word with the class. Teacher will call on different students for each word and
ask for the definition. Once the definition is given, teacher will call on different students to give an example
of the word or use it as a sentence. Class discussion.

Assessment: Each student will write a sentence using each word. Teacher will take these up and grade for
understanding.
EXPLANATION:

Teacher will provide in depth definition of each word. Teacher will write the definitions on the promethean
board and have students come up and match the words with the definitions. Once the class has gotten all
of the definitions correct, teacher will move on.

Assessment: teacher evaluation

ELABORATION:

Teacher will assign an assignment in the class’ google classroom. The assignment will be for the students
to use all 10 of their words and look up images, songs, pictures, places, people, etc that relate to the word.
The students will have to provide 1 example for each word. ex) If the word is “ambition,” students could
provide a picture of the Slytherin house in Harry Potter and a song that is about ambition. Or whatever it is
that helps them understand the word. Students will write a sentence or two for each example to explain
how the example they have given relates to the word given.

Assessment: Teacher will grade their work.


EVALUATION:
Summative:
10 points: participation
20 points: google classroom assignment.

Students will be tested at the end of the week.

Formative:
Teacher will evaluate through observation how students are doing throughout the lesson and offer help
where needed.
