IN THE
FRIENDLIEST CITY
The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlon will take place on Saturday, 1st and Sunday, 2nd
September 2018. The swim takes place at Kings Beach with Transition 1 (from swim to bike) in the
Kings Beach Car Park Area. The bike course takes athletes right, out of Kings Beach Parking Area to
the Walmer Boulevard/ Settlers Highway intersection where they will turn left. Athletes will continue
up Heugh Road/ Buffelsfontein Road through Mount Pleasant, Seaview and Beachview on the M9.
Athletes will turn around at the Thunzi Bush Lodge entrance (before De Stades Road) and head back
along the M9 into Seaview Road. From Seaview Road athletes will turn right onto Heron Road and onto
Sardinia Bay Road. From there athletes will continue along Marine Drive to Transition 2 (from bike to run)
in the Hobie Beach Parking Area. The bike course consists of 1 lap of 90.1km’s. Athletes will then start
the run heading right onto Marine Drive from Hobie Beach. Athletes will turn half way up Driftsands Drive,
return along Marine Drive to the second turning point on Admiralty Way. The run course consists of
2 laps to make up the 21.1km run route.
FULL ROAD CLOSURES: All roads connecting along Walmer Boulevard, Heugh Road and
Buffelsfontein Road/ M9 will be closed with cross-over points at the following intersections:
* 1st Avenue * 3rd Avenue
* 6th Avenue * 9th Avenue
* 10th Avenue * Swift Avenue
* 17th Avenue * Melsetter Road
Full road closure is adopted for all roads connecting into the route from Mount Pleasant
to the start/ finish point at Hobie Beach, including the outer portion of the route:
* Seaview Road * Heron Road
* Sardinia Bay Road * Victoria Drive

1ST AVENUE SUMMERSTRAND RESIDENTS
If necessary, residents can exit to the left into Marine Drive until 09h15 on the Saturday
and Sunday and continue to Lodge Road where they will join traffic flow to Brooks Hill to exit.
Marine Drive will reopen at 17h30 on Saturday and 18h00 on Sunday.
Any business or residents with emergencies can phone the Venue Operating Centre on

There will be a controlled 1-way traffic flow between Lodge Road and Brookes Hill Drive
for access to the Hotels. Hotels and residents from La Roche Drive to Ocean Avenue
will be able to use a coned off lane to exit to their properties.

Marshall Road and surrounding roads are to exit via La Roche Drive. Alternatively, vehicles can
be parked at a nearby area off the course.
The first female athlete is expected to reach Settlers Highway on the Bike at 07h57 on Saturday
and the first male athlete at 07h55 on the Sunday.

SETTLERS HIGHWAY / M4 INTERSECTION
TO 1ST AVENUE WALMER (M9)
Traffic may flow from 1st Avenue Walmer and down to Settlers Highway. This traffic can
also turn right into Forest Hill Drive at the cross-over. Traffic from Forest Hill Drive can
turn right and head towards the Settlers Highway.
1st Avenue Walmer is also a cross-over point from east/ west and west/ east.
The west lane from Settlers Highway to 1st Avenue Walmer will be closed from
05h00 to 10h45 on Saturday and 11h15 on Sunday.
Alternatively, vehicles can park at a nearby area off the course.
The first female athlete is expected to reach 1st Avenue Walmer on the Bike at 07h59
on Saturday and the first male athlete at 07h57 on the Sunday.

HEUGH ROAD / BUFFELSFONTEIN (M9)
FROM 1ST AVENUE TO 10TH AVENUE WALMER
Heugh Road/ Buffelsfontein will be closed from 1st Avenue to 10th Avenue Walmer from
05h00 to 11h00 on the Saturday and 05h00 to 11h25 on the Sunday.
There will be cross-overs from west/east and east/ west at:
* 1st Avenue Walmer
* 3rd Avenue Walmer
* 6th Avenue Walmer
* 9th Avenue Walmer and
* 10th Avenue Walmer
Alternatively, vehicles can park at a nearby area off the course.
The first female athlete is expected to reach 10th avenue Walmer on the Bike at 08h01 on
Saturday and the first male athlete at 07h58 on the Sunday.

The first female athlete is expected to reach 17th Avenue on the Bike at 08h06 on the

OLD SEAVIEW ROAD (closest to town) TO TURNAROUND
AT DE STADES ROAD INCL SEAVIEW & BEACHVIEW
The road from Old Seaview Road to De Stades Road including Seaview and Beachview will be
closed from 05h00 to 13h00 on the Saturday and from 05h00 to 13h20 on the Sunday.
The first female athlete is expected to reach the turnaround on the Bike at Thunzi Bush Lodge
entrance at 08h47 on the Saturday and the first male athlete at 08h40 on the Sunday.
The first female athlete is expected to reach Kini Bay on the Bike return at 09h15 on the
Saturday and the first male athlete at 09h05 on the Sunday.

The first female athlete is expected to reach Heron Road on the Bike return at 09h21 on the Saturday and the first

WILLOWS RESORT
From Heron Road to Schoenmakerskop Village including Sardinia Bay Road & Lower Victoria Drive will be
closed from 05h00 to 13h50 on the Saturday and from 05h00 to 14h10 on the Sunday.
(Residents on Milkwood Road can exit up towards Seaview Road, to turn right towards city only after 12h00).
The first female athlete is expected to reach the Schoenmakerskop Village on the Bike at
09h38 on the Saturday and the first male athlete at 09h28 on the Sunday.
