Twenty-seventh Sunday of the Year (C)

3rd October 2010
From Fr Peter:
I am happy to report that the Youth Mass last Sunday evening was a
success! A good number of people, especially young adults and teens,
were in attendance. Our young people made this event possible, in
particular by helping with the music ministry.
Not wanting to rest on his laurels, Brother Mairesean has announced the
next Youth Mass for Sunday 31st October at 7.30pm. This will be a
youth-led All Saints celebration, since the feast of All Saints has been
transferred to the Sunday in England this year. We must not leave
Hallowe'en to the pagans; this is our feast day, and we would like to
celebrate it this year with special joy.
I am sure that the recent visit of our Holy Father Benedict XVI to our
country has helped to energise our young people and brought out their
thirst for the living God. We are brothers and sisters of the saints in
heaven and share the same calling. As the Pope himself said to the young
people, including some from our own parish, gathered in the piazza of
Westminster Cathedral:
I ask you to look into your hearts, each day, to find the source of all
true love. Jesus is always there. Quietly waiting for us to be still with
him and to hear his voice. Deep within your heart, he is calling you to
spend time with him in prayer, but this kind of prayer, real prayer,
requires discipline.
It requires time for moments of silence every day. Often it means
waiting for the Lord to speak.
Even amidst the business and stress of our daily lives we need to
make space for silence, because it is in silence that we find God. And
in silence that we discover our true self.
And in discovering our true self we discover the particular vocation
which God has given us for the building up of his church and the
redemption of our world. Heart speaks unto heart. With these words
from my heart, dear young friends...I assure you of my prayers for
