ROCK SURFACE WETNESS RATINGS

Very dry Surfaces very dry with no moisture at all.

Surfaces generally dry but with very moderate moisture: generally, about 5% to
Dry 15% of available perimeter moist.

Surfaces generally damp with moisture clearly visible: generally, about 15% to
Damp 40% of available perimeter moist.

Surfaces generally wet with water in patches and moisture clearly visible:
Wet generally, about 40% to 70% of available perimeter wet.

Surfaces very wet with water covering the entire perimeter in shafts and lower
Very wet part of the perimeter in tunnels: about 70% to 100% of available perimeter fully
wet.

2. PIPE INSULATION RATINGS

High quality insulation system with all pipe flanges and valves fully insulated
with a perfect vapour barrier and a protective outer covering. For example,
High quality
insulation medium would be about 35 mm of high quality insulation with
conductivity about 0.03 W/m °C.
High quality insulation system on all pipes, flanges, and valves. Fully insulated,
Slightly
but with minor damage to the insulation or vapour barrier and relatively small
damaged
amounts of condensation.
Insulation system with some pipes or flanges not insulated or with damaged
sections of insulation. Heat transfer will be due to conduction through the
Intermediate
insulation as well as some condensation on bare pipe sections and/or water-
logged sections of insulation.
Damaged insulation system with missing sections of insulation. Majority of
Badly insulation is waterlogged with condensation dripping from the pipe. Heat
damaged transfer will be due to conduction through the insulation as well as
condensation playing a large role.
Bare pipes No insulation, bare pipes, flanges, and valves with condensation freely
and flanges occurring on all surfaces
3. VEHICLE AND MACHINE WORK-CYCLE RATINGS

Light utilisation with machine on very light load. For example, mobile unit working
Light on flat ground, with unit being used infrequently and carrying almost no load; or
a stationary, utility-type unit used infrequently.
Moderate utilisation with machine on moderate load. For example, mobile unit
working on gentle inclines with unit being used occasionally and carrying a
Moderate
minimal load; or a stationary utility-type unit used occasionally, or TBM working
below rated production.
Average utilisation with machine on average load. For example, mobile unit
working on moderate inclines with unit being used regularly and carrying a
Typical
medium load; or a stationary utility-type unit used continuously, or continuous-
miner working at rated production.
Heavy utilisation with machine on heavy load. For example, mobile unit working
Heavy on steep inclines with unit being used continuously and carrying near-maximum
load, or road-header working at above rated production.
Very heavy utilisation with machine working on very heavy continuous full load
rating. For example, mobile unit working on maximum inclines [as per unit
specification] with unit in continuous use and carrying maximum design load, or
Very
road-header working at significantly above rated production. It is unlikely that
heavy
mining vehicles or other equipment will work at this rate continuously for full shift
cycle times [exception would be haul trucks on long ramps] but user may wish to
examine part of the cycle.

4. HEAT-MOISTURE RATINGS

Dry heat transfer as derived, for example, from: cables, substations, motors,
Dry
hoists, winders, hot pipes, auxiliary fans, and electric locos.
Mainly dry heat transfer as derived, for example, from: hot but leaky pipes,
Mainly dry
refrigeration plant rooms and pump stations [as point elements].

Heat transfer is predominantly wet such as derived, for example, from drains &

5. DUCT LEAKAGE RATINGS

Duct leakage very low. For example, relatively low duct pressure < 1 kPa with ducts
Excellent

Duct leakage relatively low. For example, duct pressure 1 kPa to 2 kPa with ducts
Good
and joints in good condition.
Duct leakage fair. For example, duct pressure 2 kPa to 3 kPa with ducts and joints
Fair

Duct leakage poor. For example, duct pressure 3 kPa to 4.5 kPa with ducts and
Poor
joints in poor condition.
Very Duct leakage very poor. For example, duct pressure > 4.5 kPa with ducts and joints
poor in poor condition.

6. ROCK COVER [INSULATION] RATINGS

High quality rock insulation system applied around full perimeter of airway,
including footwall and drain area. Insulation system would have equivalent
Thick concrete
conductivity-to-thickness ratio of about 0.3 W/m²K or less [for example:
conductivity 0.03 W/m²K and thickness 100mm].
Good quality rock insulation but with footwall and drain area not insulated.
Medium
Side walls and roof would have insulation of conductivity-to-thickness ratio
concrete
of about 0.4 W/m²K.
Medium quality insulation [conductivity-to-thickness ratio about 1.0
Thin concrete W/m²K] applied around full perimeter of airway including footwall and
drain area.
Medium quality insulation [conductivity-to-thickness ratio about 1.0
W/m²K] covering side walls and roof only [and not floor] OR low-quality
